| Fujian province is well-known for its local opera.As the capital of Fujian,Fuzhou has always been the center of those opera activities.Studies on Fuzhou opera plays are of great significance for a better understanding of both the opera activities and their connotations in the culture,customs and beliefs of Fuzhou people.The period of late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China had witnessed a wide variety of opera tunes in Fuzhou,with those local and foreign competing and merging with each other.Opera activities of this period was distinguished in several ways,such as prominent commercial plays and increased opera troupes.This paper is a study on Fuzhou opera plays in The period of late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China.Of particular concerns are a discussion on the origins and tunes of opera plays,a textural research on the troupes,theaters and forms of organization of opera performance and also an analysis of correlations between the features of plays and the beliefs and customs in Fuzhou. |
