"Change": Coping And Self-consciousness

During hundreds of years of historical process of Chinese art in Western Learning,"change" is always the main melody,and Luo Gongliu(1916-2004)was one of the most typical artist during that time.Under the influences of the "New Woodcut Movement" and "Jin Luo Art" encouraged by Lu Xun,he joined the revolution when he was a student,and began to "do arts for the society".Art became a weapon for Luo Gongliu to advertise the revolution and fight for it.When he picked up the graver the very first time,Luo Gongliu became an artist "fighter" fighting at the frontier of the revolution.After he joined the "Lu Yi Woodcut Group",Luo Gongliu started to keep changing his art.Firstly he successfully helped transforming the old New Year pictures.He successfully changed the unreadable "foreign woodcut" into "local woodcut" which is popular among native residents,and that enhanced his skills during his long time working and practicing.After the liberation,based on his long time practicing and his own understanding of oil painting,Luo Gongliu created two revolutionary historical painting "Tunnel Warfare" and "Rectification Report",which produced a huge influence in the art history of the new China.After that,he went to the Soviet Union for further education.He went back home after that and led the education works of the famous oil painting research class,which produced a group of influential painters.At the same time,Luo Gongliu created the painting "One After",which was very controversial and had a rough passage.This is a revolutionary work which Luo Gongliu tried to make a breakthrough about the former mode of historical paintings.After the Cultural Revolution,Luo Gongliu kept changing about his art.As a pioneer of the Chinese enjoyable oil painting,Luo Gongliu did a beneficial practice and probe on it.Throughout the art process of Luo Gongliu,"change" became the biggest feature and the most important mark of his art.This passage attempts to restore the life course of how a "fighter" becomes an "artist" during a specific period while describing his art process.It will then analyse and explore the reason for the "changes" of Luo Gongliu's art.These questions seems to be already answered in General History of Fine Arts,but to artist himself,we could find more special details which could reflect how art masterpieces are complexly connected with politics,society,the age and culture through deep digging and explain of the historical data.
