The layered two dimensional metal dichalognides?TMD?are stacked together by weak van der waal interaction.Due to the anisotropic nature of the TMD materials,they form a smooth thin films,nanopalates,nanotubes or fullerene like structure.The vertically inclined TMD materials exhibits a higher catalytic property due to the exposed active edge sites.However synthesizing those type of material is quite a challenging one.This thesis reports a single step,less time consuming and easy fabrication for MoS2,MoS2/rGO and TaS2 through chemical vapor deposition?CVD?and arc discharge process.The MoS2 synthesized through CVD was used as counter electrode?CE?in dye sensitized cells?DSSC?.Interestingly,due to the active edge sites the electrocatalytic catalytic property of the CE was found to be higher.Moreover,due to the vertically inclined MoS2,the CE possesses high reflectivity which facilitates the absorbance of more photons.This trend to increase the current density of the DSSC.These factors facilitates the efficiency of approximately 7.5%which excels that of the Pt based?7.28%?electrodes.Inorder to further improve the efficiency of the DSSC,the MoS2 was inclined vertically over the reduced graphene oxide?rGO?through CVD technique.The obtained rGO was found to be in cellular structure due to freeze drying process carried out after treating with CVD.Due to higher conductivity of the rGO,the obtained efficiency of hybrid MoS2/rGO CE was found to be 7.78%which is higher than of MoS2 based?7.5%?CE obtained in previous studies.Finally,the vertically aligned tantalum disulfide?TaS2?nanosheets have been synthesized by modifying the arc discharge process.The nanosheets are found to have a lateral thickness of 40 nm with high crystallinity.The evolution of morphology and structure for the formation of the TaS2 nanosheets for different reaction times were investigated systematically.And the synthesized product adopts a 3R polytype?triple-layered rhombohedral?structure.
