Lorentz invariance is the principal core of special relativity which is one of the basic theories of modern physics.Attempts to reconcile the standard model of particle physics with general relativity have produced theory predicting a breakdown of Lorentz invariance at some level.Many terrestrial and astronomical experiments such as optical cavity,solar system and vacuum dispersion have been carried out.Testing of Lorentz invariance using rotating optical cavities is a significant experiment which has high sensitivity,short measurement time and convenient handling in laboratory.Possible detected violation of Lorentz invariance by increasing experimental sensitivity would disprove the existing unification theories and have tremendous implications for development of physics.Residual amplitude modulation(RAM)which is a major stability-degrading factors had immediate impact on the precision of testing Lorentz invarance.By using an electro-optic(E0)crystal with wedged input and output surfaces to suppress RAM,the mechanism and optimization of RAM in this approach is investigated.The RAM as low as 2×10-7 is observed,contributing a frequency instability of 8 × 10-18 in Pound—Drever-Hall frequency stabilization with a discrimination slope of 1 × 10-4 V/Hz.Cavity-stabilized laser is one of the key technologies in the testing of Lorentz invariance,thus the experimental setup of 578-nm narrow-linewidth laser system has been built.By beating with a commercial Hertz-level laser,the most probable linewidth is about 3.6 Hz.The beat frequency instability meets its minimum levels of 5 ×10-15 at 4 s averaging times.This work laid a foundation for the ultra-stable laser in testing Lorentz invariance.Based on the above analyses we have built a monolithic structure with two 10-cm crossed resonators for the testing of Lorentz invariance.Three months continuously running have been achieved.This data was analyzed according to the Standard Model extension(SME)theory.The results show the testing of Lorentz invariance in statistical error of 10-15.The system was further improved and optimized by adopting two spatial light transmitted to turntable seperately.Data analyses of three days shows that the statistical error of some parameters in the SME has entered the order of 10-16. |
