The Singapore's Core Value Research And Enlightenment From The Perspective Of Culture

With world-renown achievements in economy,politics and social governance,Singapore is a multi-racial,multi-religious and multi-cultural country and lacks the common culture and historical tradition that most countries have.In this multi-cultural background,Singapore succeeds in establishing national identity,social belonging and its own unique culture.The dissertation,with the focus on cultural construction of Singapore's core values,gives insight into the Singapore's reflection and choices of multi-cultures on which the core values are based.On this basis,the paper sorts out the cultural measures taken by Singapore government and summarizes the characteristics of its cultural construction with the aim to offer China the enlightening experience.The paper firstly offers the background of Singapore's multi-cultures,the review of ideological study of Singapore both at home and abroad and proposes the subject,methodology and significance of the study.Chapter 2 mainly analyses the challenges and opportunities brought by multi-cultures,and sorts out the settings and content of the core values at the different stages.Chapter 3,4,5 respectively elaborates the connotation and values of Confucianism,Western culture and Islam,and how Singapore critically absorbs the essence of each culture in economy,politics and culture,which forms Singapore's own unique culture.Chapter 6 discusses in depth how Singapore takes concrete measures to integrate different cultures and set up the mechanism to implement the core value effectively.Based on the previous analysis,chapter 7 sums up the characteristics and valuable experience of Singapore constructing its specialized culture for China reference,a country with the similar history to Singapore's.There seems to be some innovations in the following aspects in the paper: 1)the innovation in research perspective.At present,the academic study of core values mainly focused on the basic connotation,historical evolution,construction mechanism,the necessity and significance of the socialist core values.The paper attempts to explore the core values of Singapore from the perspective of culture,providing an innovative perspective for the further study.2)the innovation in content.Present researches about Singapore's core values mainly stay in the interpretation of “the common value”,without fully exploring the cultural background of the core values at different stages.There is no study about how Singapore's core values combine the oriental morals and western values,what basis it is built on,and what relations it has with Confucianism,Western culture and Islam.3)the innovation in theory.The successful experience gathered by Singapore in integrating different cultures and constructing its own cultures and mechanisms shows that the construction of socialist core values is inseparable from the construction of advanced culture.The construction of culture needs to require the leading role of the government and party,require the rule of both virtue and law,strengthen the supervision of mass media,build home-school-community trinity educational system,put emphasis on ethnic and religious harmony education,inherit and spread the excellent traditional culture,which greatly enrich and deepen the theoretical study of socialist core values.
