| Since the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the sinoliazation, modernization and popularization of Marxism has been repeatedly mentioned in some important conferences and decisions of the Party. Especially in the 18th National Congress of the CPC, it is proposed to promote the sinoliazation, modernization and popularization of Marxism. It is well known that the sinoliazation, modernization and popularization of Marxism is not only the guidance for the CPC in practice, but also mean to uphold and develop Marxism in China. In contemporary China, to promote the popularization of Chinese Marxism is to stick to the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics to arm the whole Party and educate the people. And this is the strategic measure for the CPC in the critical period of time with many new historical features to realize the two "centenary goals"(to complete the building of a society of initial prosperity in all respects when the CPC celebrates its centenary in 2021 and turn China into a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious when New China marks its centennial in 2049) and the Chinese dream of the great renewal of the Chinese nation, and to rally the people with the common ideological basis of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Under the new circumstances, the popularization of the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, not only concerns the fundamental interests of the masses, but also the governing legitimacy of CPC.Studying history is for guiding the contemporary administration. This paper selects the Early Years of People's Republic of China (1949-1956), reviews the brief history of People's Daily (Party newspaper), and studies Marxist popularization by analysing articles in People's Daily. This dissertation attaches equal importance to theory and practice. On one hand, it studies the articles about Basic Principles of Marxism, Maoism in People's Daily. On the other hand, focusing on the central work of the Party, it mainly studies the articles in People's Daily covering the CPC's decision of shifting the work focus to urban areas and establishing socialist system. By analysing the articles, this study finds that distinctive features of applying theories to practice are embodied in the process of the popularization of Marxism by People's Daily. When publicizing the theories, the newspaper emphasizes that studying theories is for guiding practice, the importance of which is also explained in articles in the central work of the Party. Through the study of theory and practice, this dissertation summarizes not only the real effects achieved by People's Daily in the popularization of Marxism, but also the practical enlightenments on the popularization of Chinese Marxism in Contemporary China, thus it fulfills the research goal of studying history to guide the contemporary.This dissertation is composed of 9 chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction. The main content of this chapter includes topic selection, academic value and realistic significance of the research, research status, approaches and methodology at home and abroad, and basic connotation of the popularization of Marxism. Chapter 2, starting from the founding of the Party newspaper by classical writers of Marxism, reviews the history of the founding of the Party newspaper by the CPC and summarizes the establishment process of People s Daily as the Party newspaper. Chapter 3 is devoted to the summary of necessity and feasibility of the popularization of Marxism and the brief history of it during the Early Years of People's Republic of China, focusing on the concrete practice in the realm of culture and society back then. Chapter 4 centers around the study over the articles on basic principles of Marxism in People's Daily: firstly, it introduces the main content of articles on basic principles of Marxism in People's Daily; secondly, it summarizes the approaches adopted by People's Daily to promote the study and practice of basic principles of Marxism; thirdly, it studies the Party newspaper's publicity to the textual medium of basic principles of Marxism; finally, it introduces the promotion of basic principles of Marxism by People's Daily and other media.Chapter 5 mainly studies the articles on Maoism in People's Daily: firstly, the process of the formation of Maoism is introduced; secondly, the Party newspaper particularly publicizes Mao's ideological system with major content including "Mao's philosophy thought, idea of people's democratic dictatorship, and view on literature and art",according to the Party's central tasks as well as the actual situation in the realm of ideology and culture; thirdly,reporting on the new development of Maoism combining with the central tasks of socialist reform in China—the requirements made in the general line for the transition period; finally,reporting on the publication of the important textual medium of Maoism Selected Works of Mao Zedong as well as whose popularity at home and abroad. Chapter 6 mainly studies the articles in People's Daily covering the CPC's decision of shifting the work focus to urban areas: firstly, targeted educational activities around Marxist theories have been carried out according to the actual situation of urban workers and cadres; secondly, guiding the masses to build confidence in the resumption and development of production, given all the severe challenges and difficulties facing the Party in the Early Years of People's Republic of China;thirdly, boosting urban construction; finally, reporting on the construction of the socialist industrialization so as to boost the process. Chapter 7 is mainly to study the Party newspaper's articles on the socialist political system, economic system and constitution-centered social system. Chapter 8 is mainly about the introduction to the effects achieved by People's Daily in the popularization of Marxism: firstly, it is conducive to the establishment of the state's mainstream ideology; secondly, it promotes the successful completion of the central tasks; thirdly, it maintains close ties between the Party and the people. Chapter 9 focuses on practical enlightenments of People's Daily to promote the popularization of Marxism: firstly, an analysis is made on the limitations of Peoples Daily to promote the popularization of Marxism; secondly, practical enlightenments are summed up about the popularization of Chinese Marxism in contemporary China according to the approaches adopted by People s Daily to promote the popularization of Marxism. |
