Emotion Affects The Time Course Of Creative Novel Information Processing

It is known that emotion greatly affects creative generation.Most related studies on the relationship between emotion and creativity are based on individuals' behavior performance.However,they have not reached a consistent conclusion.Recently,novelty processing which is a process that individuals perceive and recognize the novelty of given products or ideas has gradually attracted researchers' attention.Many theories about creativity hold that novelty processing is one of the key factors in the structural and multiple studies of creativity and have found a significantly positive correlation between novelty processing and creativity.This program systematically examines the process of creative novelty information processing under the influence of emotion.Cognitive neuroscience technology and several improved experimental paradigms including pictorial novelty judgment task,metaphoric process task,visual emotion arousal task and embodied emotion arousal task are employed to investigate the time course and spatial pattern of the activecerebral region of novelty information processing in this program.Experiment 1 collected the time course data during the processing of novel picturesby Event-related potentials(ERPs).The results might suggest that individuals could not distinguish those two types of stimuli at the early perception stage for object features recognition.However,the processing novel pictures were more complex which happened after the early perception stage and involved the integration of object features and working memory encoding.The novelty processing showed the right lateralization of the brain.Experiment 2 adopted metaphoric process paradigm and collected the time course data during the processing of literal novelty materimals by Event—related potentials(ERPs).The results might reflect the process for participants to detect the senmatic conflicts in materials at the early process stages.Later,influenced by early semantic conflict,the late processing for novelty would includes an integration process for semantic conflict information.Experiment 3 collected the time course data during the processing of emotion pictures by Event-related potentials(ERPs).The results suggested that the process for emotional information processing was a continued process which involves the distribution of attention,emotional information representation,information coding in memory.Experiment 4 focused on the time course of pictorial novelty processing influenced by emotion.The results suggested that mood would affected the process of novelty processing by adjusting individuals' attention in the early stage and affected the the process of representing the novelty in the working memory in the late stage.Negative emotional state impeded the process of pictorial novelty processing.Experiment 5 focused on the time course of literal novelty processing influenced by emotion.The results suggested that emotion affected the process of semantic conflict detecting in the early stage and affected the the process of representing the novelty in the working memory in the late stage.Negative emotional state impeded the process of literal novelty processing.Experiment 6 and Experiment 7 focused on the process of novelty information processing influenced by embodied emotion.The embodied emotion were be activated by facial muscles control technology.The experiment tasks were composed by four sub-tasks;there are picutrial novelty judgement task,literal novelty judgement task,Flanker task and novelty image recognition task.The results suggested that embodied emotion made a similar effection for the process of novelty information processing to emotion but the strength is weak.Taking all results into consideration,the present study suggested that:1)the process of novelty information processing involved many cognitive activities and be composed of two stages.The early perceptual stage involved the detection of novelty in attention,while the late stage involved awareness comprehension for novelty;novelty information processing was affected by the information materials present form,pictural and literial novelty information exist different processing path in brain.2)Emotion exist an obvious effection for novelty information processing.Negative emotional state prevent individual to process the novelty information.(3)Embodies emotion would also impact the process of novelty information processing like the external emotions,but the strength is weak.
