The article researches on China modern and contemporary woodcarving in the 20thcentury,in terms of production of woodcarving language under the three art concepts"representation","expression " and "reconstruction",including several woodcarving practices by Chinese sculptors and related sculpture phenomenon and theory basis fromthe early 20th century till now."Representation"," expression " and "reconstruction",not only refer to language,style,type of works,but also refer to the concept promotion behind style.As three differentappeal of art expression,"representation"," expression " and "reconstruction" indicate theinner relation between artist and society,culture,tradition.Under the guidance of different art concepts,it produces various language traits and method logic,and reveals relationshipamong artist,works and media.The three art concepts each represent a kind of woodcarving creations,the articleanalyzes works according to the classification:The first:The woodcarving works in terms of "realistic clay" and transform material.The core idea is along with the realistic sculpture creation,focus on the language of objective reflection,and realize the "representation" to "representation" in the process of transforming woodcarving.In the process,the material trait is deconstructed,woodcarving becomes the variant and substitution of clay.The second:The works in seek of ontology language construction,the core idea not onlyexpresses the unique art pursuit,but also focuses on form exploration of moldinglanguage.In the process we find the unique way in the dialogue with wood and moldingart,the special form and texture influence the production of molding art and reachbalance,touch the connotation of woodcarving ontology to form "expressive" language;The third:Deconstructing "woodcarving" concept and realized language "diversion"woodcarving or wood media works,the core is the reconstruction to deconstructed formerwoodcarving concept,in order to expand the border of woodcarving language and form,obscure woodcarving concept,focus on and excavate connotation of material,taking theworks from image expression to concept expression,realizing the transformation in woodcarving from the "physical" and "symbolic" way.The article deeply researches on woodcarving types under the guidance of three different art concepts,trying to start with single media,analyze developing way of China sculpture in the 20th century and outline an implied theory clue in the works.
