On Opera Composing In Fujian Since "New Era"

Taking the new opera scripts composed by the playwrights in Fujian since the“new era” as the subjects of the research,this thesis analyzes the opera composing in Fujian since 1978 from “Literati Perspective” and “Folk Standpoint”.Guided by the contemporary literary criticism strategies and literary research theories,this thesis chooses“Close Reading”and “Field Work” as the researching methodologies and studies on the gain and loss of the opera composing of Fujian since the “new era”from multi perspectives.Based on the text composing and stage performances of the new dramas in recent forty years,this thesis expands its discussion with the focus on the following four parts: "Love Mode","Historical Narration","Game Spirit",and "Moral Writing".These four parts,relatively independent but internally connecting,constitute the whole paper,trying to change the traditional classification of "playwright" and "play type".The subjects discussed in the body of this thesis cover famous writers and their works,the repertoire of folk troupes,unpublished mimeograph scripts as well as those“forgotten scripts” that haven’t received enough attention.On the basis of the large amount of information and its supplementary,this thesis reflects the creation of live Fujian theatrical circles since the “new era” in a comprehensive way.In the first chapter,this thesis takes the scripts of traditional Fujian local opera as a reference coordinate,so as to summarize the multiple changes of love writing in the composition of Fujian opera since the “new era”.Generally speaking,“love factor”has mostly been the decoration of the plays,and the style of love story has been changing from “ Talented men and beautiful women ” type lively to relatively tragically gloomy since 1980 s.In the new century,the scripts of Fujian opera flexibly returns in “pure love” type,and the taste of love writing tends to be various.In the second chapter,this thesis mainly focusing on the three routines of narrative history in the scripts of Fujian opera.Though “history” has been placed as the source of composing materials,Fujian opera playwrights take different choices,pursuing“historical reality” 、“emotional reality”,or proceeding “jesting fiction” among the“historical gap”,while strongly embrace the precondition----“artistic reality”.Theyhave made not only improvements in composing,but also breakthroughs in the notion of historical plays.In the third chapter,this thesis pays more attention on “game spirit ”.On one hand,it specifically analyzes the buffoonery traditions and the characteristics of the clowns in Fujian opera plays,on the other hand,it gives attention to how the playwrights composing the unique plots of the officers dramatically.At last,it emphasizes the notion of attaching importance to the “game spirit” of opera.The Fourth chapter refers to the “moral contents” of Fujian opera composing,compares the two generations of playwright ’ s attitudes towards traditional moral,also compares the difference of ethics moral differences under the“ literati preference” and “ folk standpoint”.In addition to the description of the current situation and a brief account of its characteristics,this thesis aims especially at the current evaluation criteria of the operas,highlighting the special quality that “dramas are designed for the stage”,and points out that reviving the operas lies in keeping a clever balance between the“literati orientation” and the “folks’ interest”.Therefore,in order to help transmit the local operas from generation to generation,this thesis suggests that playwrights should take on more responsibilities and make some concessions and that the critics should offer more guidance and observations from the perspectives of the stage rules.In the conclusion,this thesis puts forwards some countermeasures and suggestions on the bottleneck that Fujian theatrical circles may meet with in opera composing,in the hope that more experience and inspiration will be furnished for the composing and the editing and revision of the new opera in Fujian and even the whole country.
