As a mainstay in today's French literary circles, the writer Michel Houellebecq has risen to fame since his second novel Les Particules elementaires and receives much concern with every later work. With his first three novels(Extension du domaine de la lutte,Les Particules elementaires and Plateforme),he is seen as the prophet of western people's feeling and desire disaster from the end of twentieth century to the beginning of the twenty-first century. Then the novel La Possibilite d'une ile conceives more boldly the clone world's picture, and is regarded as the biggest unrecognized pearl of the Prix Goncourt of 2005,with the lack of only one vote.In 2010,the author won the Goncourt crown with La Carte et le Territoire,to make up for the regret made by Les Particules elementaires and La Possibilite dfune ile.In 2015,once published, the novel Soumission got to the top of the best-seller list, and because of the coincidence with Paris's crime committed by terrorists that year, the writer won the title of seer of mankind's fate. There is no doubt that Houellebecq is a household name in French, and that he is one of the most widely translated French literature writers, his works represent in a great extent the achievement of contemporary French literature, and he himself is often compared to the contemporary great litterateurs such as Le Clezio,Mondiano and Perec. This thesis has chosen Houellebecq's six novels as the research material, and the multidimensional utopian theme in these works as the research object. Its academic value and realistic significance embody in the following aspects:first of all,the study of Houellebecq's utopian theme is beneficial to expand the utopia research's field of post epoch in France and world literature and thus has positive literature significance of inheritance and constructive value.Second, the study of Houellebecq's utopian theme helps to reveal the sociological implications of literature field and to give prominence to the literary text's realistic significance. To a certain extent, our research attempts to justify the author's writing, the label of sex writing and physical or biological grafting is too superficial to sum up the writer's writing intention and writing purpose,so that it cannot represent the essential core of Houellebecq's writing, that is to say,his social concern.Thirdly, the study of Houellebecq's utopian theme is able to help Chinese literary researchers to grasp the trend of the development of French contemporary literature and to boost the timeliness of domestic French literature research. As for research methods, based on the text analysis, our thesis relies on the(anti)utopian fundamental concept framework at macro level,at micro level, the intertextuality between the writer's text and other thinkers, philosophers and writers's texts supports our argumentation. On the one hand, our research is dependent on the premise that Houellebecq's works do exist the utopian theme and a variety of intertextuality relations;on the other hand,in the research data in hands, some scholars have already discussed relevant issues of Houellebecq's text from different angles, which can also offer support to our research. The introduction part of the thesis mainly states the research object, research significance, the research status of the writer's works, our research methods and the overall structure of the thesis. The main body of the thesis is divided into seven chapters, each chapter analyzes one dimension of Houellebecq's utopian theme,so that we can gradually penetrate the kernel of the writer's utopian complex and grasp the characteristics and tendency of his utopian writing. The first chapter mainly traces the development of Utopia in the literary field and defines the Utopia of post epoch and its multidimensional context,in order to provide conceptual bases for further arguments.Starting from the novel text of Houellebecq, the second chapter sums up the main disadvantages of contemporary western society repeatedly involved in Houellebecq's works. As fundamental power, these disadvantages prompt Houellebecq's utopian thinking. It is on the basis of criticizing social evils of the days that the writer gave the literary utopian remedy. From the third chapter, our research mainly based on the intertextuality between Houellebecq's utopian thought and other utopianists'(Huxley,Schopenhauer,Comte,Fourier,Morris and so on)social ideals. In the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh chapters, our research begins respectively from the technological,religionary,erotic,laboring-artistic relationship and state control dimensions,in order to reveal and to detailedly demonstrate the multiple(anti)utopian themes contained in Houellebecq's novels. In the conclusion part, after the review of our intertextuality method,we make a summary to Houellebecq's utopian thought in his novels.
