Research On Translation And Spread Of The Water Margin In Thailand

China and Thailand have a long history of communication.A large number of Chinese Classic Literatures circulated in Thailand in pace with migration of overseas Chinese.The first Thai edition of The Water Margin occurred in 1867,named SongJiang.In 150 years,more and more editions appeared and attracted Thai royal family and people of all social standings,having an effect on Thai literature,military,society,culture and so on.It is worthy to study the spread and influence of Chinese classic literature in Thailand,represented for The Water Margin's and The Romance of the Three Kingdoms'Thai editions.The culture communication confirms the friendship of Thai and China,which has been an important human landscape of two countries' contact history.Chinese culture's vitality and development overseas could be displayed through this study.This paper is divided into six parts:Prolegomenon explicates the origin and significance of the research by review of the cultural exchange between China and Thailand.The section also establishes the methodologies and research scope.In addition,there is literature review including Chinese classic's spread and influence in Thailand and relevant studies of The Water Margins external translation.Chapter 1 Chinese literature in Thailand emphatically discusses Chinese classic literature's spread and influence in Thailand.The study gives four steps of Chinese literature's development in Thailand according to observation of these literature's translation books and social reality of the time.On the basis,the paper briefly discusses the influence of Chinese literature on Thailand literature.Chapter 2 The Water Margin's translation editions and library collection focuses on the information of Thai translation editions from 1867 to 2015,consisting of publication date,title,translator,book information,publishing company and edition.What's more,the paper gives a list of all universities' library collections on The Water Margin's Thai editions and Chinese editions,explicating the relevant edition information and reserved audiovisual materials.Chapter 3 Comparative study between Thai translation editions and original work of The Water Margin studies in two methods.Use of two kinds of macro and micro research?On the macro,have some comparison with "Water Margin" original and Thai translation of the chapters.On the micro,have some comparison with "Water Margin" original and three Thai editions.One is to compare the name and toponym in Thai translation versions and original work,aimed at discover the translators' methods in detail.Another one is to systematically analysis three Thai translation editions by applying Professor Huang Zhonglian's Translation Variation Theory.The paper discovers their revise in the sight of adding,decrease,adapting,narrating,cut.Then translation's method and strategy could be summarized.Chapter 4 TheWater Margin's spread and influence in Thailand is divided into two sections.The firstfocuses on The Water Margin's traditional spread mode,mainly reflecting in Chaozhou drama and Performance of Yingge.Furthermore,The second focuses on The Water Margin's modern spread mode,such as the Chinese Bridge Competition for foreign students,Oriental Rose Cup and Chinese Teaching Skills Competition for middle school students in Thailand.The College Entrance Exam(Chinese Subject)also tests the related knowledge in this masterpiece.This paper dose the research about The Water Margin's online editions as business way,and the films and television programs as well.At the end of this paper,there are Appendix One,Appendix Two,Postscript,Acknowledgements and Reference Documentation.
