In the history of Chinese novels, classical ones gained mature development in the Tang Dynasty and achieved rather high artistic achievements. In the Song and Yuan dynasties, classical novels were gradually on the wane. However, they again revived in the early Ming Dynasty, bringing extreme prosperity to such novels in the Ming and Qing dynasties and promoting the creation of the peak work Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. Moreover,More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick by Li Changqi,Stories for Seeking Lamp by Shao Jingzhan and New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick by Qu You have been rated as San Hua(Three Volumes of Stories)in the literary history. These three novels are closely tied up with each other in terms of artistic creation and succession relations. Two works, namely New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick and More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick, not only had far-reaching influence with wide dissemination in China back then, but also were spread to some countries in East Asia, leading to a series of imitative versions there.Geumosinhwa by Kim Si-seup,the most important work in the history of Korean literature, has been especially affected by these two novels.Geumosinhwa, considered to be the beginning of Korean ancient novels, has significant meaning for the history of Korean literature. It also indirectly confirms an essential effect of Chinese literary works on the development of literature history in South Korea.Since the introduction to Korea,New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick had been widely spread among government officials and scholar-bureaucrats there, one chapter of which, namely Legend of Aiqing, was compiled into Xun Shi Ping Hua(Popular Stories with Admonitions),a Chinese textbook in the Joseon Dynasty.Even Daily Records of Yeonsan-gun,containing veritable records of the king, also records,"With royal orders, envoys were supposed to introduce Chinese novels such as New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick,More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick,Xiao Pin Ji(A Trial Collection of Stories)and The Story of the Western Wing. And books like New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick and More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick would be imported for printing".Accordingly,by means of envoys buying books,New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick,More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick and the like had been widespread in the Korean Peninsula back then."Er Hua",namely New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick and More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick, introduced to the early Joseon Dynasty, were block-printed to attract plenty of readers and found frequently in Annals of the Joseon Dynasty,as well as in other documents and literary works.Affected by "Er Hua",many legendary and love stories were written.Even in the early 20th century,New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick was still published with undiminished popularity.Among foreign books, what Koreans read and published most was New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick. While More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick was not as popular as the former,it was still loved by many readers and often quoted in documentary records. The author takes illuminating the correlation of Chinese and Korean literature as a mission, thinking that it's very valuable to find out the similarity and dissimilarity of Chinese and Korean culture and literature through literature research method, textual analysis and comparison method. Therefore, this paper aims at deeply studying "Er Hua" that has a significant influence on Korean literature, and mainly discussing its influence on Korean novels to analyze the intimate and correlative development of Chinese and Korean literature.Chapter 1 introduces the production of New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick by Qu You and More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick by Li Changqi to form the novel series "Er Hua",and illuminates how "Er Hua" affected the following literary and opera works in China.Chapter 2 focuses on clarifying the spreading process and channels of "Er Hua" in China,South Korea,Japan and other countries.Chapter 3 and 4 elaborates the great influence "Er Hua" has brought to Korean novels. It,so to speak, promoted the production of famous Korean novels such as Geumo sinhwa,"Giiaegiyi","Unyeongjeon" and" Jusaengjeon".From two perspectives of"ideological contents" and "artistic characteristics" respectively, this paper hereby particularly analyzes the influence brought by "Er Hua".More than that,Chapter 5 also discusses how Korean novels, adapted and translated ones get material from "Er Hua",and how "Er Hua" affects the catalogue classification of Korean novels and culture. In general,"Er Hua" has exerted an extensive and far-reaching influence on Korean novels, including the naming methods of protagonists, imitation of narrative structure and genre, narrative form of inserted poems, artistic expression of setting the frame and structure through dreams, the correlation of extremely similar plots and so on.Under the restrictions of the political changes in Korea, such as the suppression of banned book policy, and the influence on literature from Japanese Invasions of Korea and Second Manchu Invasion of Korea, the ideological contents and artistic expressions of "Er Hua" have been still inherited and presented in novels of past dynasties in Korea."Er Hua" has infiltrated into the cultural life of Koreans with the specific performance as follows:1.Legend of Aiqing in New Stories Told While Trimming the Wick, translated in vernacular Chinese, has been compiled into Chinese learning material to become a basic textbook for the official language."Er Hua" is also the first work to be translated among Chinese novels.(Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven translated from Sword Dance of Qingcheng of More Stories Told While Trimming the Wick)2.The first novel Geumo Sinhwa in the Korean Peninsula was created under its influence.Scholars started to understand the literary genre, novel.Since then,"Zhuan(story)" has been added behind most names of Korean novels, adding more novelistic features to them. For example,"Mongyurok novels " and "Mongcha" group novels are also models in this branch.(Records on the Celebration of Water Palace and Adventures in Weitang)3.A batch of imitative works and literary works affected by "Er Hua" have been created, such as Geumosinhwa,"Gijagiyi","Unyeongjeon",and "Jusaengjeon","Hong gildong jeon" and "Guunmong".4.The form of inserting poems into novels flexibly has also become a model, which has traditionally appeared in literary works for a long time in Korea.5.It not only has exerted an influence on pansori, the Korean traditional folk music.("Simcheongga" of The Story of Simcheongjeon,"Chunhyangga" of The Story of Chunhyangjeon and "Sugungga" of "The Story of Beuljoobujeon ",but also has significantly affected the changes in cultural contents of modern Korean movies,TV shows and music dramas.6.It makes the return of the complete versions lost in China via Japan again possible, which has rich documentary value.7.It has an impact on the production of medium and full-length Chinese novels.(Jia Yunhua Returns from the Grave)8.A rare literary work always loved by Koreans in recent over 500 years. It has been published for over 20 times with a version
