The Influence Of Hollywood Movies In Early Age To Shanghai Culture (1930-1949)

Hollywood movie has extraordinary cultural transmission function.Meanwhile under the impact of early Hollywood films,significant changes occurred in the social and cultural patterns of Shanghai City and the moral culture of citizens in Shanghai.Early Hollywood movies' immersion aroused the public awareness of national consciousness of citizens in Shanghai,accelerate the birth of Chinese movie and make it a leading banner of national cultural development,which also objectively brings the unprecedented openness and socio-cultural change in Shanghai.This open and reform spreads in all levels such as social and cultural values as flood,so that the Oriental City Shanghai not only has the best material and foreign cultural achievements in the world,but also combining Chinese and Western culture in such fierce cultural collision to develop the local national culture rapidly.This paper centralized in Shanghai Culture which is under the influence of early Hollywood movies,following the route of the milestone of the birth of movie,Hollywood's unique charm and its cultural expansion,influence on early Chinese films and Shanghai culture and cultural collision relationship between Hollywood movies and Shanghai,focusing on the analysis why Chinese national movie and Shanghai culture develops into a new culture of modern China instead of Westernization under the influence of Hollywood movies.This paper consists of five chapters.Chapter one starts from the fact that the Hollywood movies impact old Shanghai as the representative of the American movies,trying to carry out the logic details through the background research and significance discussion.At the same time,latter half of the chapter collects the basic data of Hollywood movies in China between 1930 and 1940,states the basic developments of Chinese movie in this period and then introduces some related concepts of Shanghai Culture,Shanghai Literature and Shanghai film for further discussion in subsequent chapters.Chapter two,from the inside to the outside,firstly points out that the internal source of the unique charm in Hollywood movies is a distinct American culture,then makes efforts to find the relative relationship of scenes of great design,enriched characters,unique history involvement and its national character through the analysis on several typical Hollywood films.On this basis,the second half of this chapter focuses on the development and expansion of Hollywood movies in China,demonstrates three main reasons which are unique operational methods,good comprehensive manner and overall star impression.Chapter three reviews in the influence of Hollywood movies to Chinese social and cultural open and reform changes.In the first half of this chapter it sorts out the local Chinese film and its own national characteristics,changes after the immersion of Hollywood movies in China,overall make-over of Shanghai Culture after the involvement of Hollywood Movies in Shanghai.On this basis,the latter part of this chapter focuses on local films 'shift in the direction and styles of different periods,discusses the leadership role of the left-wing film in special times and historical backgrounds.On the basis of the first three chapters,Chapter four inspects the mutual development of Chinese movie and Shanghai Culture and its linkages.It states a deep discussion in historic opportunities,historic backgrounds of their collections,then details the framework in the analysis of modern women,Anti-Japanese War,war of liberation,political and commercialization and some other key elements,expands the relative depth and range of Hollywood movie's influence in Chinese movie and culture.Chapter five discusses on the relationship of local culture and foreign culture,from intertwined and interdependent to mutually exclusive,from important promotion of Hollywood movies in Shanghai Culture to the raise-up of national consciousness and resistance of cultural invasion.This chapter will once again bring Hollywood movie into a big cultural background to make the further considerations,make efforts to figure out a reasonable analysis and explanation in these two remarkable major forces in the historical and cultural development.In conclusion,ancient Chinese culture has a diversity spirit that any foreign culture could not afford to conquer it but be conquered.The culture of openness and the open-minded culture will produce a sense of magic which can make the profound and historical Chinese culture maintain the vitality and lead the way of times.
