It was since the 1970s or 1980s that contemporary Chinese writers drew some attention from the Japanese academic field.Particularly,the modern problems of the contemporary Chinese authors were heatedly discussed and talked about in Japan.As a contemporary Chinese pioneering author,Can Xue is highly thought of by the Japanese academic field.In Japan,Can Xue has a lot of readers and fans.The translator,promoter of Can Xue's works and critic of contemporary Chinese literature,Naoko Kondo founded the "Research Center of Can Xue".Continuously,he led a crop of young scholars devoting themselves to the study of Can Xue.The center is the only one that names after a contemporary Chinese author..She is the only admitted contemporary Chinese author.Apart from her literary works,her literary review,was translated and published in Japan in 2005.There is no doubt that Can Xue is one of the contemporary Chinese authors whose works get the most translated in Japan.Japanese researchers not only see many typical characteristics of the contemporary Chinese authors in Can Xue but also many her distinctive features.Anyway,it is fair to say that Can Xue is one of the most influential contemporary Chinese authors in Japan.The aim of the paper is to comb the process of Japanese study of Can Xue and its concerns.The set up of the Research Center of Can Xue divided the study of Can Xue in Japan into two stages.At the first stage from the 1980s to 2008,Naoko Kondo's own work made up the most part of the study.The second stage,after 2008 when the center was founded,the study gradually transformed into a group work.At the first stage,Naoko Kondo did many deep and valuable study,some of which was translated into Chinese and published in China.Can Xue herself highly values the research of Naoko Kondo,saying Naoko Kondo pushed her works to a higher level.One of Naoko Kondo's books,which thoroughly described Can Xue and another book which gave an account of the Chinese literature in the 1980s were published.(The latter was published in 2002 by People's Literature Publishing House).Apart from those books,there were also some papers which laid the foundation of Can Xue's study in Japan.At he second stage after2008 when the Research Center of Can Xue was founded,the study of Can Xue in Japan was gradually transformed from solo research by Naoko Kondo to group research.From the content,apart from the early study done by Naoko Kondo,more attention was paid to the detail of the text.The study done at this stage was mainly published on?The Research Of Can Xue?,which was born in the center.After the set up of the Research Center,the members decided to publish an issue of?The Research Of Can Xue?every year,including some translation of her work and her reviews.From 2009 to 2015,there have been totally seven issues of?The Research Of Can Xue?.The attention paid to Can Xue by the researchers in Japan mainly focuses on the following four aspects.The first is about understanding the Orestes complex in her works.In the eyes of the Japanese researchers,there is a strong tendency to kill the mother in her works,especially early works.When Naoko Kondo started to translate her works in earlier times,the urge to get away from mothers,or rather,families and the desire to be independent caught his attention.In Naoko Kondo's view,to be under the protection of the mother or the family and to be independent are contradictory with each other.In order to be independent,the mother has to die,so does the dependent self.Getting rid of the protection of the mother finishes the transformation from dependence to independence.The second is about the grudge from others.According to Naoko Kondo,in the literary world of Can Xue,there is always another or several others who hold grudge to the self.They either desire to kill or smear the self,but it is in this grudge that one becomes aware of the self and the fact that one has lived under the regulations of others for a long time and has seen oneself as the same as others.Only through the hatred of others,do we first realize the distinctive existence of the self and begin the process of examining oneself.Others is the outer side of self and the self is the inner part.The outer and inner sides get developed through the comprehensive understanding of oneself.In the view of Japanese researchers,the self in Can Xue's world gains the fully understanding of oneself after experiencing independence and with the aid of others.The third is about the exploration of the ambiguous language in Can Xue's works.There has always been a kind of subtlety that fascinates the Japanese researchers.It can be a mysterious incident or can be a bewildering problem.In order to illustrate the incidents or problems,many vague words are used in her works.The Japanese researchers call this use of language full of suspect,ambiguity and uncertainty.The Japanese researchers devote a lot of attention to the language in Can Xue's work,because through the ambiguity of language,the researchers see the rebellious side of Can Xue.Japanese researchers interpret this use of ambiguity in her works representing her desire to uproot the deeply ingrained rules.The drive to do that comes from the vigorous self hidden in her soul.The fourth is about the interpretation of the different world built in Can Xue's works.The author of this paper interprets the world from two aspects.The first aspect is the surreal world.When people are awake,limitations of languages are forced.We comprehend the literary works under the rules of the language and through the descriptive words of the authors.Can Xue is clearly dissatisfied with the rules,so she leads the readers to a surreal and original world where the rules are broken and gives the readers a chance to observe and experience the world without limitations.The second aspect is about a world dangling beyond the realistic world,where there is no regulations or any limitations,even without the most simple regulation--road signs.Through the interpretation of the Japanese researchers,Can Xue's world is original.No rules or regulations exist in this world.On the other hand,we can also say the world has developed beyond the rules and returned back to no rules.In this world,the drive is not rules or language limitations,but humans' inner motivation.It is this kind of infinite motivation that drives the humans,things and objects in Can Xue's world.Japanese researchers interpret several Can Xue's works in the contemporary literary view,which is slightly different than that in China.The cause lies in the difference in the point of view.The research made on Can Xue in Japan plays a major part in Japanese acceptance of Can Xue and shaping the Japanese opinion on the modernity of contemporary Chinese literature.
