The World And The Modern:World Conception And Germination Of The Chinese Literature' Modernity

This dissertation studies the relationship between the world conception and the germination of modernity of Chinese literature, explores the path to the formation of world conception, investigates the relationship between world conception and the modernity, and probes into the possibility and approach that the world conception influences the modernity. The paper focuses on the interaction between new conceptions and the modernity, and the premise for the initiation of the modernity by new conceptions. It is also concerned with the steps and connotation of people' acceptance and understanding of the world conception, and explores how the world conception is involved in shaping the modernity of Chinese literature and brings more possibilities for the development of modernity.The dissertation is divided into 5 chapters.The introduction part explains the reasons for choosing this topic, reviews relevant literature, and states the significance and contents of the present study.Chapter one explores the formation of the world conception, and its relationship with the development of modernity. Based on a traditional worldview and the formation of the world conception, we can determine the different levels of the world conception, and its features, such as decentration, hierarchization, horizontal thinking pattern, dynamic condition and contradictory value. By taking into account the Buddhist origin of the traditional word "world", this paper develops a multicentral metaphysical structure of the world. Therefore, we know that how "world" in English is translated into "Shijie" in Chinese. In addition, the characteristics of the "world" make us know that the world conception is closely related to modernity.Chapter two analyzes the relationship between the world conception and germination of modernity. The emergence of modernity is reflected not only in the external objects and the system renovation, but also in the way that the persons percept modernity. Experience of modernity is an important part of literary modernity. World conception is directly involved in the modern transformation of experience, and new space brings a series of experiences, from novelty to confusion and lost, which is the earliest modernity experience. Huang Zunxian's poems describe the world and related experiences a lot, and carefully depicts the interaction between the world conception and the experience of poetry modernity.Chapter three discusses that the world conception awakens the modern identity in the Chinese literature. Modern Chinese literature is not only "China literature", but also "world literature".The awareness of this dual identity is an important part of the modernization of Chinese lite-rature. The "world" is the important background for Chinese literature' identity awareness. The germination of "China literature" is closely related to world conception. At the same time, the "world literature" is developed in the background of acceptance of the world consciousness. Only when you truly accept the modern world conception and the literature of other nations, will it be possible for you to understand and accept the world literature. The understanding of the world directly impacts our imagination, expectation, understanding and description of the "world literature".The following two chapters discuss how the world conception participates in and influences Chinese modern literature concept. To begin with, we differentiate the understanding and the emphasis of the world conception in different periods. The fourth chapter focuses on the relationship between "the world" and language reform, which is reflected in two aspects. On one hand, the world consciousness is one of the motive forces and targets for the language reform. The comparison with language development of other nations and judgment on the trend of the world language evolvement is one of the driving forces of language reform, and also to some extent determines the direction of the reform. On the other hand, the pursuit of the cosmopolitanism causes the promotion and publicity of Esperanto, which leads to radicalism in the Chinese modern language reform.Chapter five focuses on how world conception participates in the establishment and construction of the "Human Literature". For one thing, strengthening of the world consciousness could dilute the state discourse, enabling the individuals to escape the control of the state discourse, and to fully develop themselves. At the same time, cosmopolitan atmosphere can also contribute to the humanitarian thought, which is beneficial for building the "Human Literature". Moreover, although "Human Literature" proposed by Zhou Zuoren' adheres to the individual standpoint, it never gives up the focus on the world and the human. It is this world and human pursuit that endows the "Human Literature" with a new feature of idealism, and this pursuit also implies demands for social reform, which influences the development and trend of the modern Chinese literature.The last part simply discusses the role of the world view in the modern combination of the folk and local aspects of literature modern by Zhou Zuoren, pointing out that the world conception further participates in the development and combination of modernity, and that more studies should be conducted in the future.
