Part I Characteristics of breast cancer in Central China, literature review and comparison with USAPurpose:This work was to analyze characteristics of breast cancer(BC)in Central China, summarize main characteristics in China and compare with USA.Methods:BC main characteristics from four hospitals in Central China from 2002 to 2012 were collected and analyzed. All the single and large-scale clinical reports covering at least ten years were selected and summarized to calculate the BC characteristics of China.BC Characteristics in USA were selected based on the database from Surveillance,Epidemiology, and End Results(SEER)Program. Results:Age distribution in Central China was normal with one age peak at 45-49 years, displaying differences from USA and Chinese American with two age peaks.BC characteristics in Central China displayed distinct features from USA and Chinese American, including significant younger onset age, lower proportion of patients with stage I,lymph node negative, small tumor size and ER positive.A total ten long-term and large-scale clinical reports were selected for BC characteristics of Mainland China analysis.A total of 53,571 BC patients were enrolled from 1995 to 2012.The main characteristics of BC in Mainland China were similar as that in Central China, but were significant different from developed regions of China(Hong Kong and Taiwan),USA and Chinese American. Conclusions:BC characteristics in Central China displayed representative patterns of Mainland China, while showed distinct patterns from Chinese patients in other developed areas and USA.Part II Breast cancer characteristics in Mongolian and disparities of ethnicities among Chinese patientsPurpose:This work was to analyze breast cancer(BC)characteristics of Mongolian patients, summarize main BC characteristics of minority ethnicities and compare with that of Mainland China. Methods:BC main characteristics of Mongolian and Han from Inner Mongolia of China from 2011 to 2014 were collected and analyzed.BC patients of Chinese from Central China and USA were enrolled for comparable analysis.BC characteristics of minority ethnicities from other reports of China were searched and compared with that of Mainland China. Results:There were no disparities of BC characteristics between Mongolian and Han in three groups of patients of China(Mongolian and Han patients in Inner Mongolia and Central China).BC characteristics of the three groups of China showed significant differences of that in Chinese American, including higher proportion of younger patients, larger tumor size, lymph node positive, regional stage, hormone receptor(HR)negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)positive(p<0.001)for China.BC characteristics were reported in only four minority ethnicities of China, including Hui,Uygur,Mongolian and Kazakh.Compared with Mainland China, main BC characteristics of the patients among Mongolian,Hui and Kazakh in China displayed similar patterns, but with distinct patterns with that of Uygur, including lower rates of localized stage, lymph node negative and ER positive. Conclusion:BC characteristics of Mongolian were similar with that of Han in China, but not for Chinese American.BC characteristics of Mongolian,Hui and Kazakh were similar with that of Mainland China, but not for Uygur patients.PARK ? Characteristics of breast carcinoma in situ in China and comparison with US patientsPurpose:This work was to analyze BCIS characteristics in Central China, summarize the main characteristics of BCIS in Mainland China, and compare with these characteristics with those reported in the USA.Methods:The characteristics of BCIS in Central China were analyzed and compared with those in the USA.We searched and summarized other reports to make these comparisons.BCIS characteristics in the USA were obtained from the latest database of the Surveillance,Epidemiology, and End Results(SEER)Program. Results:Ninety BCIS patients with a median age of 52.5 years(30-86 years)were enrolled from Central China.Differences in the age distribution of BCIS in Central China, the USA and in Chinese Americans reached statistical significance(P<0.001).There was a significantly higher rate of younger BCIS patients in Central China than in the USA,but the distribution was similar in Chinese Americans. The BCIS ratios(ratio to overall BC)in Central China, the USA and in Chinese Americans were 4.5%,17.3%,and 23.5%,respectively(P<0.0001).The BCIS ratio in Central China was significantly lower than that in the USA after the mid-1980s.Based on the inclusion criteria, the main characteristics of BCIS from 19 other reports in China were summarized. The median BCIS ratio in China was 6.8%(3.4%-19.3%),which was similar to that in the mid-1980s to mid-1990s in the USA.The median ER-positive rate and median mastectomy rate in China were 63.9%(42.3%-74.6%)and 81.1%(59.7%-91.6%),respectively;these were significantly lower than those in the USA and in Chinese Americans for the same periods(P<0.001).Conclusions:BCIS characteristics in Central China corresponded to the patterns in Mainland China, which were distinct from those seen in the USA,with a higher proportion of younger BCIS patients,a lower BCIS ratio and ER-positive rate and a higher mastectomy rate.
