We've been exposed to the challenges of increasingly changing,complicated digital technology,concepts of space and architectural design patterns since the 1990 s.The deepening application of digital technology has diversified the images of longspan architectures,enriched their structural morphology innovation.Numerous cases can serve to exemplify it,but some undesirable phenomena still have arisen.For instance,some blindly pursued exaggerated architectural images at the expense of the fundamental structural principle.It is of great necessity and urgency to research the design philosophies and generation strategies of the nonlinear structural morphology in the face of the present practical conflicts between the demand of nonlinear longspan architectures and the disjunction structural morphology design.From the perspective of structural morphology,the present paper introduces the complexity science and methods,proposes the theoretical framework and design strategy of the nonlinear structural morphology of long-span architectures in a bid to give guidance to the theoretical research and creative practice of the digit-based long-span architectures,and finally to realize the goal of efficient,ecological and aesthetic use.The paper firstly analyzes the characteristics of the nonlinear structural morphology of long-span architectures.Long-span architectures are included in the categories of architecture featuring high technical requirements,wide scopes of influence and multi-disciplinary comprehensiveness,with their architectural morphology,structural morphology and space morphology in close ties.And structural morphology is the core object of long-span architectural design.This paper reveals the nonlinear relationship between “shape” and “form” of the structure,proposes that the seemingly chaotic structural style is in essence the basic argument of deepening of the internal logic to the greatest degree,further extends the concepts of “shape” and “form” of structure to such six elements as geometry,material,conformation,structural performance,space performance and aesthetic performance,respectively and discusses successively the positive effects of each element on the innovation of the nonlinear structural morphology.The paper secondarily connects complexity science and long-span architectural design to a higher degree,sets up the theoretical framework of nonlinear structural morphology of long-span architectures and puts forward three strategies generated from the nonlinear structural morphology.First,it establishes the essential correlation between the complicated system and the nonlinear structural morphology system by means of analyzing the complexity science in a deep sense.Following that and inspired by Kant's three philosophical problems,it correlates the three levels,namely,the thinking,technology and ethics of long-span architectural design.There into,the first level is to apply the complexity thinking to establish the bottom-up hierarchy of the structural style,building performance and the environment,and meanwhile,reveals that “the participation of people's idea” is the real origin of the nonlinearity of architectures;the second level starts from the two clues,the first to be the translation between virtuality and reality and the second to be seamless linking of architectural design,processing and building,discusses digital coordination of the methods of architectural design;the third level is the introspection of the ethics of design,brings forth human pursuit for perfect design of long-span architectures and gives guidance to the creation of long-span architectures to fulfill their use.Thirdly,The paper discusses three generation strategies oriented by the theories and methods concerning the generation,evolution and maintenance of the nonlinear structural morphology system.Primarily,combining the system emergence,it proposes the strategy of unit reproduction for the generation of the nonlinear structural morphology,obtains the conditions and mechanism of the emergence generation and makes graphic formula analysis of the spatial extension of the structural prototype.What's more,in combination with systematic evolution,it comes up with the material topologic strategy for the generation of the nonlinear structural morphology,starts from the different stages of structural optimization and intervention,and from the three levels of highly structural optimization,physical structural topology and structural bionics and mimesis.Finally,it combines the system life maintenance theory and methods to put forth the parameter inverse hanging strategy of the nonlinear structural morphology.Aiming to excavate the potentials of the environmental factor for the shaping of the structural morphology,it re-deduces the classic physical inverse hanging method to build the parameterized model of the architecture,the environment and the structural morphology(the BSGLM model),and control the generation of diverse nonlinear structural morphologies by means of environmental adaptation.The research on the generation of the nonlinear structural morphology of longspan architectures boasts great theoretical and practical significance.The paper provides scientific and reliable design methods,and objective and systematic reference systems for the design theories and nonlinear structural morphology systems of long-span architectures in China.It has pivotal practical significance for expanding the view of innovation of long-span architectural design and promoting the development of long-span architectural design in an efficient,ecology-friendly and beautiful way.
