As the source of vitality of the city and the event container,conservation areas embodies the rich historical information of urban development and contains cultural value,it also reflects the distinctive regionalism,sense of place and identity.The conservation areas along the Grand Canal,which have a high comprehensive value of historical,cultural,economic,community art and so on,are not only the living space of the canal culture,but also are an integral part of the Grand Canal.The Grand Canal has been successfully inscribed in the World Heritage List.And the on the large-scale protection and remediation work of the conservation areas along the Grand Canal has come to an end.However,it is not the end,but only the beginning.The conservation areas and historical buildings along the Grand Canal will face the tasks of continuous protection,utilization,renewal and development for a long time in future.Based on theory of the perspective of life cycle,dynamic protection,organic update,this dissertation takes the using the historic districts along the Grand Canal in the main section in Hangzhou,using the methods of Interdisciplinary and multi-dimensions,establishing modern adaptability assessment system,it evaluates the modern adaptation of historic districts along the Grand Canal and provides the continuous protection of the updated strategies after accurate diagnosis.The dissertation is composed of seven parts.Part ? introduction,is discussing the background,purpose of the topics and the context,methods of the research.Part ? Research Status,focuses the related literatures at home and abroad,which include the research of the Grand Canal,conservation areas,evaluation method,modern adaptation,organic renewal and so on.Part? discusses the relationship between the Grand Canal and the Hangzhou Historic District,grasp the Hangzhou canal historic district development,modern adaptation of Canal District is confronted,put forward the necessity of evaluation of its modern adaptability.Part ?discusses the extraction of factors,determine the evaluation index,the index level is divided three steps of the framework of modern adaptability assessment system.Part ? through the questionnaire survey,the public and experts statistics,calculated each index weight,after comparison and analysis of index weight weighted to get the final,complete the construction of modern adaptability assessment system.the Part ? is empirical research on the three blocks of qualitative evaluation and quantitative evaluation,qualitative evaluation and quantitative evaluation problem of comparative analysis the advantage of using a variety of goals and gives the evaluation system to possible;according to the total score and the block evaluation index Comparative study of the situation,the problem of accurate diagnosis of each block,and gives the corresponding recommendations for the protection and renewal strategy.Part ? Summary and Prospect.Part ?,part ?,part ? and Part ? are the main parts of the research.The dissertation presents the modern adaptability of conservation areas—which are undergone conservation and renovation along sides of the Grand Canal.And it also establishes a modern adaptation evaluation of historic districts along the Grand Canal.This makes the research from qualitative to quantitative,which has a beneficial to the conservation,renewal and dynamic tracking of the conservation areas.Besides,it the foundation for follow-up research and practice of the protection and renewal of the conservation areas of the Grand Canal,as well as the relevant research in other areas.
