Space, Place And Identity

With the development of urbanization,the study of urban space has gradually become a new science that spans many disciplines.In the study of the spatial subjectivity construction in the current urban problem.To start the construction of the spatial subjectivity from the perspective of the state,we can bridge the gap between macro theory and micro narration.In this paper,we try to establish the relationship between the state,the space and the individual through the concept of place identity.Place is a certain sense of space,is a collection of human activities and the experience,emotion and memory in the space.The identity based on the place is an "objective materialized self-identity",people develop material and emotional attachment in the interaction process to the place to construct their own position and role in the social interaction.The identity process theory holds that the formation of the place identity is a dynamic structure.It is based on the changing meaning of the place to adjust and assimilate the self-concept.In addition to the characteristics of the subject,the place identity is influenced by the external social culture.In the context of modernity,the meaning of the place is constantly reconstructed as the "social turn" of the space.Space is not simple material,but a country's most important political tools with the ideological characteristics.The construction of many workers' village in China's 50,60 years is such a place where the spatial subjectivity is construct under the country.To socialized individuals,the home,the neighborhood and the community are undoubtedly the most important places,and the identity of the home,the neighborhood and the community constitutes the most basic understanding of "where I am","where do I belong".The housing is the material carrier of home,neighborhood and community,and the study of urban residential space form is the most important starting point for investigating the mechanism of formation recognition.In this study,we selected the first workers' village,Shanghai Cao Yang New Village as a case,to investigate the mobilization process,the spatial planning,the villagers' selection mechanism and the daily life of the community,and reveal how the socialist country make the utopian place.On the other hand,the inhabitants living in the workers' village are actively or passively accept the discipline of this institutionalized space and recognize and assimilate the symbolic meaningof space and construct their collective identity.Because of its rich theoretical connotation and the ability to resolve many social problems,place identity is regarded as the object of many social sciences disciplines such as urban sociology,environmental psychology,human geography,architectural phenomenology and so on.This study absorbs the results of these disciplines above and tries to made a useful attempt to interdisciplinary research.
