The fabric air dispersion system(FADS) is a kind of terminal equipment in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. It can be used for both air transmission and air diffusion purposes. A FADS is made of a special high-tech polyester material and is installed under the roof of a building. The airflow of the FADS disperses through fabric permeation and multi-row orifices or linear vents to form a airflow pattern. This study was performed to investigate the air flow characteristics of FADS, The main contents are as follows:(1) The visualization experiment was carried out in a full-scale chamber. The main aim of this work was to investigate the airflow structure of the FADS. And the effects of the outlet orientation and velocity of supply air was found on the jet junction phenomenon. An efficient model to predict the maximum jet velocity decay was established, and the self-similarity characteristic was proved.(2) Characteristics of velocity distribution in air supply chamber of FADS were studied using numerical simulation method. Quantitative analysis was performed for the jet maximum velocity and temperature decay, and the indoor air temperature distributions effected by supply air temperature and velocity.(3) Vertical wall attached jet air supply form for FADS was showed. The effects of air distribution for this form were discussed, considering the outlet orientation, velocity of supply air and the distance from the ductwork to the wall.(4) Discussed the application of FADS. And the air distribution design methods for FADS were summarized preliminarily.Through the study above, the air distribution characteristics of FADS was showed, which is helpful for the system design.
