China is facing severe threats of earthquake disaster.Regional building seismic damage simulation can be very useful for earthquake disaster mitigation in urban area.Therefore,the structural analysis methods and visualization methods of regional building seismic damage simulation are studied in depth in this work,the details of which are as follows:(1)Based on the various demands of regional building seismic simulation,a multiple levels of detail(Multi-LOD)regional building seismic simulation framework is proposed.Under this framework,users can chose the appropriate LOD regional building seismic damage simulation method based on the available data,the computational capacity and the time limit,which makes the regional building seismic damage simulation more flexible.(2)Based on the Multi-LOD simulation framework,a multi-degree-of-freedom(MDOF)shear model together with its parameter determination method and damage assessment method(LOD2)are proposed for the regional building seismic damage simulation of reinforced concrete(RC)frame structures in China.The methods are validated by comparing with the results of 2 experiments and 16 refined finite element models.(3)To simulate the seismic behavior of unreinforced masonry and reinforced masonry structures in China,the MDOF shear model for masonries,together with its parameter determination method and damage assessment method(LOD2),are also studied.The proposed methods are validated by comparing with the results of a full-scale masonry experiment and the actual seismic damage results of Longtoushan Town during Ludian earthquake.(4)In order to simulate the seismic response of RC tall buildings in urban area,a MDOF flexural-shear model and its parameter determination method and damage assessment method(LOD2)are proposed.The methods are validated with the results of5 refined finite element models.As for the regional building seismic damage simulation based on refined finite element model(LOD3),an automatic modeling method is proposed to facilitate such process.The method has been used for the modeling ofseveral RC tall buildings.(5)Visualization methods based on urban 3D polygonal model(LOD2)and refined finite element model(LOD3)are proposed to present the seismic responses of buildings in urban area.Compared with conventional methods,the proposed two methods can thoroughly demonstrate the story-level and component-level seismic responses and damage states,hence can serve as a better approach for urban seismic scene visualization.(6)Two case studies are performed to demonstrate the proposed methods.The results show that the proposed building seismic simulation method can well assist the benefit analysis of pre-earthquake regional building retrofit planning;Compared with conventional methods,the proposed visualization method can display the 3D earthquake disaster scene dynamically and more realistically.
