A Study On The University Research Institutes During The Republic Of China

The university research institutes are not only the indispensable organizations of the scientific research system in our country, but also they are the organizations to cultivate the graduate students during the Republic of China. They were created and developing under the background of the academic independence and the transplant of the western university system in our country.Their evolutionary process is a process that modern academic research got rid of the colonization and they trent to organization, specialization and institutionalization. And it is a fusion process of the degree system, the discipline construction, the academic independence and the research combined with teaching in the modern university. Also it is a process that they were influenced heavily by the social politics, economy and culture at that time. They had impacted on the function of the university,the way of the academic research and the academic communication.They also trained personnel, innovated the mode of the personnel training,accelerated the process of the degree independence and the academic independence in the university.This dissertation contains seven parts as following.The first part is the introduction. It mainly expounds the cause of the topic,defines the core concept,determines the research scope and completes the review of literatures.Meanwhile, this part describes the value,the general thought and the methods of this research.In the end, the author points out the innovation and deficiencies of this research.The second part is the chapter one. This part mainly analyzes the background and the creating process of the university research institutions.The cause includes the transplantation of western university system,the inheritance of the academic spirit,the seek of the academic independent and the need of the academic research mode in the university. There are some fuzzy views about the first university research institution.So there is a textual research on that.In addition, it explores the founded process of the first university research institute in Beijing university specially.The third part is the chapter two.This part mainly studies the institutional change and the development of the university research institutes. The institutional history of the university research institutions is divided into three stages of1902-1934,1934-1946and1946-1949. This part analyzes the institutional changes, function changes, the features of development scale, regional distribution,disciplines distribution,and so on.The fourth part is the chapter three.This part mainly discusses the management mode and the running mechanism at four aspects which contain affiliate relationship,organizational structure, personnel management and sources of funds about the university research institutions. Moreover,the special research institutes are independent research organizations which don’t carry out graduate education and have some distinctiveness to others.But they are also analyzed at four aspects and inserted in the related university.The fifth part is the chapter four. This part mainly introduces the academic research and the academic exchange about the university research institutes.Firstly it analyzes the general situation of the academic research in the whole country.Secondly, it mainly introduces the academic research work of the seven universities about the content, the way and the achievement, etc.Thirdly. it mainly introduces academic exchange of the seven universities including the academic journals, the academic conference, the academic investigation.The sixth part is the chapter five. This part mainly introduces the graduate education of the university research institutes.Firstly, it mainly introduces the development situation of the graduate education at that time, including the institutional change, development scale, disciplines distribution and properties.Then it introduces the recruit and training of the graduate student about the seven universities.The seventh part is the conclusion.This part simply states the contribution and the problems of the university research institutes during their development. At last, this study gives us some enlightenment.
