With the great change of institution and society, the occupational status andreputation have fallen down for rural teacher. Narrative inquiry is used in this researchon ifve rural teachers in A county. Due to different factors from school, family andsociety, there are obvious changes on rural teacher, such as low identity, expectationand motivation. Besides the great change of traditional society, the educationalinstitution also makes a great change on teacher. In the group of rural teacher, thelayered-structure of institute deprives the equal opportunity for parts of teacher. Theexam-oriented education institution is bad to development for teachers in differentsubjects. In the micro-system of school,the identity of teacher becomes unequal,especially for teacher who does not teach Chinese, English and mathmatics. Due tothe marketing in the society, more and more rural teacher takes part in the marketingactivity. Based on different income,the new identity is shown in the group of ruralteacher. In addition, t’wo factors effected teachers identity, which are teachers’ genderand local development in economy. Female teacher has high level of identity withgreat competition. And in the area with high level of economy, teacher has low degreeof identity, vice versa.This dissertation is consisted by three parts.In part1,introduction and chapter1are composed. The origin,importance, mainproblems, review and method of research are introduced breilfy. In addtion, theprocess of case study is explained in detail.In part2,the main body of research is composed of chapter2,chapter3,chapter4and chapter5. From the different aspects, the real condition of teacher’s identity isdescribed. Based on the low level of identity for rurl teacher, theoretical analysis isshown in this part.In part3,some research ifndings are shown as conclusion. In addition, based onthe relfection of disadvantage in research, further research plan is formedpreliminarily.
