On Arendt’s Thought Of Action

Three dimensional features are possessed by action. In the public realm, firstly,man shows his appearance to other people and gets the evidence of his own being byaction. Secondly, action breaks the endless circulation of nature, while labor and workrun under the necessity of surviving. At the cost of being mortality, man gains the abilityof initiating. Moreover, the limitless possibility of action and the natality are the basis offreedom. Arendt, to this extend, regards action as the exclusive movement of man.However, action, comparing to the other movements of human, brings about more risksin the meantime. The western tradition of political philosophy was initiated, therefore,in the pursuing of effective way in which the defects of action could be remedied andthe more stable political pattern could be found.The main problem of the western tradition of political philosophy, in Arendt’s view,lies in the debilitation of action’s significance and the intention of controlling the riskscompanioned by action exteriorly. Consequently, the original political experience wascovered by the notion of productive politics, and the features of productive politics weredisclosed comprehensively in the form of totalitarianism. The notion of productivepolitics has been influencing the current world, although the time of totalitarianism hasgone. The socialization of world and the arrival of the era of consumption andprofession, furthermore, have put men into new crisis. Culture and education turn wereturned into inanity by the weakening of worldliness, and all sorts of human movementswere surrendered to the gigantic process of survival.It is necessary to getting back the faith of action, including the unity of its politicaland ethical dimension, for the sake of liberating from the crises took place with thesocialization of world. Rebuilding the fundamental spirit of being of man, ultimately, isthe only route of self-redemption of modern world.
