| This article is based on the research of the relationship between theimage of Ferghana Horse and the image of horse in art in the Han Dynastyin China. Through site visits, literature searches, archaeologicalexcavations and reviews, it grasps the detailed information of the imageof the Ferghana Horse from all ages in ancient China, sorts through andsummarizes the figurative characteristics and artistic features of thesculptures, lithoglyphs and paintings of the Ferghana Horse from ancientHan and Tang Dynasties, also to analyze China’s importing history of theFerghana Horse in Han Dynasty, and its artistic representation and theembodiment in traditional Chinese culture, in order to reveal the impactof the Ferghana Horse on the image of horse in Chinese art, especiallythe horse culture in China. This article researches and analyzes theheritable images of the Ferghana Horse from different dynasties byintegrating the culture and history of ancient Han and Tang Dynasties,verifies the establishment of the image of the Ferghana Horse throughpictorial sources and documentations, and also its reason of beingimplemented in the Han Dynastyï¼›dissects the relationship among theFerghana Horse, the established “horse style†and <Horse-judgingClassics> from the Han Dynasty; and finally sums up the styling and epochalcharacteristics of the sculptures and paintings of the Ferghana Horse,in order to examine the cause that influenced art in each era. Therefore,to expend the realm of the current research on ancient Chinese horse stylefrom history, archeology and folklore to fine arts, that is to review andanalyze the art of horse in China.The paper is mainly unfolded in the following parts: the first chapterstates the artistic representation of the“Ferghana Horseâ€in historicaldocuments, the eyes of emperors and the works of poets and artists afterit had been imported in China, also generalizes the impact of the FerghanaHorse on the art of horse in ancient Chinese art, especially in visualart; the second chapter is the analysis of the artistic visualization ofthe Ferghana Horse in the Han Dynasty, it discusses the commoncharacteristics and diversities in the image of the Ferghana Horse fromvarious locations in the Han Dynasty; the third chapter examines thecultural and social reasons that resulted the Chinese culture of horsefrom the image of the Ferghana Horse. The sculpture of the Ferghana Horseindicates the summit of Chinese ancient realistic art, it is not merelya mimic or pure visual realism, but rather the traditional national spirit,the aesthetic requirement of the time and the strong historical missionbehind these visualizations. |
