Objective: analysist the ancient cough prescription, the research explores the diseasehistory, etiology and pathogenesis, classification of disease and syndrome, and prescriptionregularity, and then concludes the thought and the method of the ancient coughprescription, in order to search for a new way to treat cough, and provide a clinicalreference as well.Methods:(1)Philology Methods: based on the analysis of the prescription cough from Pre‐Qin to the Qing Dynasty contained all kinds of literature of traditional Chinese medicine therapy,using the cough formula in the “Traditional Chinese Medcine formula dictionary”,distinguishing and researching from the origins, To grasp the law of all kinds of syndrome differentiation and treatment of coughing.(2) Statistical Methods:Used frequency analysis,combined with the traditional ideas, Using the theory of traditional Chinese medicine to analysis statistical results. And the final statistics into1923pieces of prescriptions,the total of424taste medicine.Study:(1) Combined Traditional Chinese medicine literature and statisticsed,concluded the evolution, pathogenesis, formula drugs profiles of cough;(2) analysised the characteristics and laws of various types of cough.. Using statistical methods to research traditional cough formula, analysis results to identify the traditional treatment ideas of various types of cough;(3) According to the literature research and statistical analysis,making recognition about the Syndrome classification, diagnosis and treatment, summed up the basic law, to provide experience of diagnosis and treatment new ideas.Conclusion:(1) In the ancient times, cough is named, which is mainly dependent onthe etiology;(2) Future generations of cough large classification system origin from elevencough in “Plain Questions” and ten cough in “Disease Source”(3) The basic pathogenesisof cough: lung loses dispersing and descending, lung Qi inverses; The basics of coughprescription from the total cough data table: to lower lung Qi, to relieve and resolvephlegm;(4) The statistical results on the general cough prescription and the total data tablehave highly consistency, but the general cough prescription reflects the characteristics oftreating cough and lowering lung Qi;(5) All kinds of cough prescriptions, includingprescriptions of wind cough, cold cough, heat cough, wet cough, dry cough, wine cough,food cough, sudden cough, chronic cough, Qi deficiency cough, Yin deficiency cough, andcold-and-deficiency cough, have their own distinctive characteristics, and their generality–to lower lung Qi, relieve cough and resolve phlegm;(6) Pill and powder are the main formin the cough prescription.
