Energy conservation and environment protection have always been the two major issues ofthe sustainable development of human society, which can not be avoided. Because of thegrowing of the city energy consumption and pollution, the development of moreenvironment-friendly public transportation is an important task for automotive industry.HEVbuses technology can reduce the pollution of urban transportation effectively. The technology ofenergy storage power for HEV is a major technology of HEV bus development. SynergicElectric Power Supply (SEPS) is one of the new technologys and develop directions of HEVenergy storage power technology.From the perspective of the vehicle, this paper proposed a systematic design and controltheory for the synergic electric storage system in HEVs. A widely applicable method foranalyzing the design process of the energy storage system (ESS) used in HEVs is presented. Theconcept of the power-energy (PE) function is proposed. By using operating data from a hybridelectric bus in Chang Chun, power demand analysis and performance estimation are carried outfor the optimal design of the SEPS. The concept of SOE (State Of Energy) is proposed todescribe the status of the SEPS. Based on SOE and the fuzz control theory, the control of SEPSand the powertrain is integrated in the same level. For the low energy desity of the ultracapacitor, a dynamic adjustment algorithm is proposed to improve the utilization of the ultracapacitors. A test bench is established. Simulations and tests are carried out for the verificationof the control strategy and the performance of the SEPS.This paper provided a theoretical support for the design and control method of SEPS. It canhelp the SEPS for the application in HEVs.
