In recent years, with the fast development of Chinese companies overseas, thecorporate social responsibility (CSR) of Chinese state-owned company has become apopular topic around the world. The impact of CSR has on Chinese companies’overseas development and state-image has been larged. Meanwhile, Chinesestate-owned companies overseas have been constrained by multiple factors in CSRfield. How to avoid the overseas risk, and to realize the benefits from the political、economical and social field is a major subject for Chinese state-owned companies.This thesis focuses on the CSR problem of Chinese state-owned companies, startswith the disputes on CSR from the developing countries and developed countries.Then reviews the history of how Chinese state-owned companies’ CSR problem hascaused the attention at home and abroad. Through the Analysis of CSR of Chinesestate-owned companies in different countries around the world, the aim is to find outthe reasons which affect the Chinese state-owned companies’ CSR behavior overseas,and to provide the factual evidence for the development of overseas Chinesestate-owned companies and the China’s foreign relations.This thesis consists of eight chapters.The first chapter reviews the emergence and development of CSR, especially focuseson the standard stetting of CSR, with the aim of combing the historical development of CSR and the multiple meanings of CSR, understanding the popular internationalCSR standard in the world.The second chapter compares the differences of CSR in the developing and thedeveloped countries, with the aim of clarifying the international divergence of CSRThe third and fourth chapters study the history of how Chinese state-ownedcompanies’ CSR problem has caused the attention at home and abroad, and the mostcontroversy CSR issues for Chinese state-owned companies overseas, with the aim ofhaving a complete picture of the CSR problem of Chinese state-owned companiesoverseas from several aspects.The fifth and sixth chapters investigate the CSR issues of Chinese state-ownedcompanies in Australia and Zambia, with the aim of studying the CSR behavior ofChinese state-owned companies in different political and social environment. It findsout that in Australia,the CSR management system is very mature, the political andsocial environment is stable, the legal institution is norm, and the CSR of Chinesestate-owned companies in Australia is generally good. It also finds that in Zambia,although the CSR management system has been build, the political and socialenvironment is in chaos, the interests of central and local government are different,the work union and other political force interact with each other, which makes theCSR management system is out of reach with the reality and objectively causes thelabor disputes between the Chinese state-owned companies and the Zambians.The seventh chapter further analyzes the CSR issues of Chinese state-ownedcompanies in Australia and Zambia from the two aspects, and summarizes thedifficulties and progresses of CSR issues of Chinese state-owned companies overseas,with aim of summing up the CSR issues of Chinese state-owned companies overseasin dynamic ways.The eighth chapter illustrates the main conclusion of and the further issues for thefuture studies.The main conclusion of the thesis is that, the issues of environmental protection andlabor rights are the most attracting ones for the Chinese state-owned companiesoverseas. The reasons affecting the CSR of Chinese state-owned companies overseas are very complicated, which contains the factors both outside and inside thecompanies. The external factors include the political and social environment in thehost countries, and the interests and the impacts of the stakeholder. The internalfactors include the company’s ability of fulfilling the CSR, and the measurement ofbenefit-cost balance.The innovation of this thesis is reflected in the following aspects: first, try to deepenthe study of overseas development of Chinese corporations from the perspective ofCSR, and expand the research field of Chinese corporations’ foreign investment issues.Second, try to find the regularity cognition about the CSR behavior of overseasChinese corporations from a more objective angle by comparing the situation inAustralia and Zambia. Third, bring the investment environment of host country intoanalytical framework and enrich the research contents of overseas development ofChinese corporations. Fourth, conduct a study about the relationship between CSRand foreign aid; put forward the idea that there are both differences and connectionsbetween CSR and foreign aid.The weakness of this thesis lies in the lack of available first hand research materialsabout the CSR behavior of overseas Chinese companies without a comprehensiveevaluation.
