Iron and steel industry is the foundation of a country’s industrilization, and it is an indispensable part of the national economy. Modern metallurgical equipment is a core in iron and steel enterprise’s production and value creation, because of the particularity of iron and steel industry, relevant types and quantity of equipment spare parts inventory is necessary to the enterprise. In a background of world wide’s steel overcapacity and economic benefits of steel enterprise sharply declined, reducing cost has become the focus of steel enterprises’management. However, the spend on purchasing and stocking equipment spare parts accounts for a large part of production cost, and it makes nowadays’steel enterprise urgently need an effective spare parts inventory management and optimization method, which guarantee normal spare parts’consume in equipment running and maintenance, meanwhile maximizing spare parts’purchasing and inventorying cost.Basing on a large iron and steel enterprise’s equipment information management system’s development project, and referencing series algorithm models in research area of inventory management and steel enterprise’s equipment spare parts management, this paper has designed the spare parts’classification assessment method, technique critical degree evaluation algorithm, and inventory optimization algorithm. And the paper applying these methods and algorithms into iron and steel enterprise’s spare part management and optimization.The research is divided into four parts, in the first part it has designed a spare parts classification method which base on mixed classification indexes-two key indicators that spare parts’inventory velocity and technical importance are combined as the main basis of classification, through this method, all spare parts in inventory are divided into twelve types.In design process of spare parts’classification, there is a demand of mathematical method that can quantify spare parts’technique importance into specific data and rating, therefore, the second part of this paper is about research and design spare parts’technique critical degree evaluating algorithm.
