With the rapid development of modern radar, electronic warfare and wirelesscommunication, the size of electronic equipments are increasingly miniatured, antennaswith multiband, wideband and miniature characteristics have been drawn more andmore attention, planar printed antennas become important research topics in these areas.Simultaneity, in order to adapt to the fast growth of modern communication, antennasmust meet the requirements of low-cost, low-profile, high-gain, polar multiplex andbeam scanning. The Continuous Transverse Stub (CTS) antenna is a new type ofantenna that can meet these requirements. Based on the research projects, thisdissertation is mainly concerned with the design of multimand/wideband planar printedantennas and CTS arrays. The multiband planar printed antennas, the band-notchedultra-wideband planar printed antennas, as well as the Continuous Transverse Stubantenna arrays have been investigated systematically. The author’s major contributionsare as follows:1. Multiband planar printed antennas are studied. According to the requirements ofWLAN and WiMAX, a dual rectangular ring planar printed antenna is designed byemploying rectangular monopole with open-ended and connecting the dual rectangularat an optimized offset to obtain multiband characteristics; a U-shaped planar printedantenna is designed by introducing the same shape open stub and employingcoupled-fed to obtain multiband characteristics and improve the radiation patterns; acompact planar printed slot antenna is designed by loading asymmetric G-shaped slot inthe ground and employing coupled-fed to obtain multiband characteristics. Theprototypes of the proposed antennas are also fabricated. The measured results show thatthese three antennas have good multiband characteristics.2. Ultra-wideband (UWB) printed antennas with band-notched characteristics arestudied. In order to restrain the potential interference on UWB system from the others, such as WLAN, WiMAX and downlink of X-band satellite communication systems, aplanar printed slot antenna is designed by introducing the tapered slot to obtainwideband characteristics and meander-line slot to obtain band-notched characteristicsand narrow notch band. Simultaneity, the working principle is analyzed andcorresponding equivalent circuits are presented; a planar printed antenna with dual ormultiband notched characteristics is designed by utilizing configuration characteristics of the radiating patch and introducing slits and U-shaped slots, respectively. At the sametime, the equivalent models for each antenna are also introduced. The prototypes ofthese band-notched UWB antennas are also fabricated. The measured results show thatthese antennas have good band-notched UWB characteristics.3. The series fed Continuous Transverse Stub antenna is proposed and investigatived.CTS element characteristics are investigated by using CTS technology; a CTS radiationelement is designed by connecting two adjacent CTS stubs together to avoid the gratinglobes and fed by series feeding network, a CTS feeding port transformation network isdesigned to realize the transformation from standard waveguide to broad waveguide. Kaand Ku series fed CTS arrays are designed, the arrays have high gain, high efficiencycharacteristics. Details of the overall series fed CTS arrays are given finally.4. The parallel feeding Continuous Transverse Stub antenna is proposed andinvestigatived. A CTS radiation element, parallel feeding network and reflector typefeeding network are designed respectively. Operation band of the parallel feedingnetwork is guaranteed by the designed reflector type feeding network. Details of theoverall wideband CTS array are given finally. Additionally, the prototypes of theproposed CTS array are fabricated and measured.5. The Continuous Transverse Stub antenna polarization and beam scanningtechnology are proposed and investigatived. Dual polarized CTS structure and multiportfeeding network are designed, the designed dual polarized CTS array has high gain, high efficiency, high isolation characteristics; circularly polarized CTS array is designedby connecting CTS antenna and meander-line polarizer together and has good axial ratio;beam scanning characteristics of CTS element are investigated by using VariableInclination Continuous Transverse Stub technology. VICTS array is designedpreliminary. Details of the above CTS arrays are given finally.
