On The Design Of The Virtual Sound Field In The Music Production

In the music pre-production progress, the procedure includes’Composition, Arranging and Recording’; in the post-production, there are steps as’Mixing and Mastering, etc.’ At the beginning of music production, the final music product should be considered as the goal and the design of virtual space has to be paid attention too which includes the fitness between the selection of patch and the instruments of arranging with the virtual space. Later, in the process of Recording, Mixing and Mastering, the design and the detailed adjustment of virtual space become more essential. So far, in Chinese music industry, the design of virtual space is merely taken into account in music production. Moreover, there is usually no one clear goal as the reference during the whole music production progress. There is a lack of a comprehensive thinking or research of virtual space in music production. Additionally, there is even less theoretical books of this area.However, virtual space has been frequently mentioned when musicians or music critics give comments for music work. Meanwhile, the broadness of the’space’in a piece of music work is always thought as the standard for the music quality. Therefore, in this paper the design and adjustment of virtual space are two main topics. According to these topics, firstly, I am going to do some research of virtual space in music production by studying the music pre-production, and especially the post-production process in a view of musical acoustics. I will also study measurements to design and adjust the virtual space from the angle of Psychology of sound.In this paper I am going to study virtual space in detail, as dividing it into the layered, the sense of frequency, the sense of space and the sense of distance. Then I will give measurements for how to adjust the virtual space by controlling different devices and software during music pre-production and post-production.Furthermore, in this theoretical work I will introduce Equalizer, Compressor, Reverb, Delay and Distortion which are the specific measurements to adjust effects during music production. By studying the relationship between different parameters of those measurements with Psychology of sound I try to work further and deeper on the research of my study.
