The Bush doctrine is the national security strategy and practice, put forward during the first George W. Bush’s Administration, which is the outcome of the dense imperialism. From the fresh perspective of the Grand Strategy of the United States, the thesis mainly studies on the forming factors, core connotations, comprehensive practice and historical influences of the Bush doctrine.The entire article can be divided into the following parts:Introduction, Body and Conclusion. The first part reveals the topic’s orgin and significance, summarizes the current situation of the scholars both at home and overseas. Besides, trying to illustrate the framework, methods of writing, difficulties and the innovations the author strives to make. There are five chapters of this thesis.Chapter one begins with the related conception, introduces the historical revolution of Grand Strategy, dissecting the relationship between the Grand Strategy of the United States and the Bush doctrine. In essence, the Bush doctrine is a national security strategy, an important and historical part of the grand strategy of the United States, which is also a kind of exploring practice based on the Grand Strategy of the United States after post-cold war.Chaaprer two mainly elaborates the forming factors of the Bush doctrine. Its material basis is the solid national comprehensive strength and the most powerful military strength. Its ideological basis is the theory of national security strategy and the trend of Neoconservatism. Inevitably, the Bush doctrine is branded with the personal factors of the President Bush himself."9.11" terrorist attack is the catalyst of Bush doctrine, making the final shape and release of it.Chapter three provides a particular analysis on the core connotations of the Bush doctrine. As a national security strategy, it includes two strategies:current counter-terrorism strategy and hegemony strategy in the medium and long term, the Bush doctrine consists of three core connotations: counter-terrorism, pre-emptive strike and unilateralism. The inner relations of the three connotations is as follows:fighting against terrorism, containing the rogue states and preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction are the focus of the national security strategy of the United States after "9.11" attack; The pre-emptive strike is the military means to reach the purpose; The unilateralism behavior is the indispensable bridge between the purpose and the methods.Chapter four mainly introduces the practice of the Bush doctrine. The chapter discusses the thinking and practice to the grand strategy of the United States in two stages during two Administrations of George W. Bush. The first stage starts with the"9.11" attack to the end of the first Administration. The key words of the stage are "Counter-terrorism","Pre-emptive strike" and "Unilateralism". The representative events are the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Between them, the Iraq war is a comprehensive experiment to the Bush doctrine. In the second stage(2004-2008), in respond to all kinds of problems of the Bush doctrine, the second Bush Administration tried to adjust and amend them, so its strategy was called "the new Bush doctrine" among the academic circles.Chapter five mainly analyzes the Bush doctrine from the perspective of the grand strategy of the United States, and evaluates its historical heritages and influences. The Bush doctrine is an ambitious, risky nation security strategy and foreign policy agenda, whose essence is an imperial strategy in the new era after the cold war. It greatly shakes the international order and world pattern. Its inner contradictions and defects determine the limit vitality of the Bush doctrine.The conclusion sums up the main points of the text, and puts forward some beneficial revelations on the basis of them.
