Yi(以), Zhun(准) and other similar words abtainspecific legal functions in Sui and Tang. Based on study of the Tang Code’s wording,Bazili is summed up in Song. Exploration of the eight terms’ meanings continues inSong and Yuan.The eight terms’ Knowledge spreaded,theory deepened but judicialeffectiveness weakened in Ming and Qing. Finally, Bazili is abandoned during thelegal amendments in the late Qing.In Tang code,the main type of Ji(åŠï¼‰ is as conjunction as and or or.Theintention of Ji(åŠï¼‰term is to classify and connect similar items,reflecting a balance indetail and simplicity.The types of Qi(其)are pronouns or adversative conjunction. The intention of Qi(其)are to reflect comparison with the contact.The types of Ji(å³ï¼‰are to emphasize the timing or to emphasize contentcompact.The intentions of J(iå³ï¼‰are to express subtle changings or judgment reasoning.The types of Ruo(若)are to assume conditions as if or to simulate aboveitems.Ruo(若) means that substantial modifications of the foregoing.Qi(其),Ji(å³ï¼‰,Ruo(若)may indicate change,reflecting differences. Ji(åŠï¼‰,Ji(å³ï¼‰,Ruo(若)may indicate similarities,enriching the content and extractingcommonalities. Ji(åŠï¼‰,Qi(其),Ji(å³ï¼‰,Ruo(若) describes pattern of behavior,preparing for certain legal consequences.Yi(以)and Zhun(准)represents Bazili best.Yi(以)and Zhun(准) mustbe used with Lun(论)for citing another regulation.The functions of Yi(以)and Zhun(准)consists maintaining integration of the system of punishment and taking intoaccount the various crimes.Jie(皆) is used to setting death penalties and other severe penalties,achievingparticular prevention and punishment goals.Such Jie(皆) is used of a narrow range inTang Code.Ge(å„)is used to imply complexity and to make expression concise. The nature of Bazili is to create a fine distinction which fit ritual spirit and toindicate the penalties from wording.The functions of Bazili are to elaborate specialconditions,forming an orginized structure.
