The Research Of Painting Arts About Bui Xuan Phai

Bui(Bui Xuan Phai) has been well known as one of the famous artists, who has remarkably influenced on the present development of Vietnam Fine Art. To be graduated from the School of Indochinese Fine Art, he performed his heart, spirit as well as style on paintings which combined with mixed touches of Eastern culture and compose methods of Western Fine Art. Working over 40 years in the field of Art, he experienced many composition styles including Realistic, Impression, Abstract and even as Cubist. However, it can be easily realized that most of his paintings is absolutely featured by expressionism. The majority of his works expressed a view of profound aesthetic basing on the combination of the structure and shape with simple, neat, concise but full of contours rhythm and color emotion. Especially, behind the artistic language that was deeply thoughts from his mind. Deriving from this, the research on Bui’s painting was carried out as a representative case of Vietnam Fine Art. Relying on the previous regarding researches combined with his works and notes, this study tends to explore and capture the overall appearance and Bui’s style of art via the standpoint of actual paintings.This thesis aims to synthesis and analyzes some causes leading to the formation of Bui’s painting style through his process of working in art and especially, his movements of each period of art creation. This process including the stage when he was initially in School of Indochinese Fine Art being taught by French professors and until the last years of his life which was featured by colorful era. At the same time, this study also analyzed the legacy and new compositions in the term of traditional art and influences from composing methods of European’s painting of expressionism.With the variety of different topics in Bui’s painting, this thesis also conducted to classify all of his paintings according to some typical themes such as portrait, landscape, theatrical Cheo, nude, coastal militia. The core of this thesis is to study and analyze features of the visual language, namely research on lines, color, space and rhythm in his works. From then, it clarified unique aesthetic value of Bui’s painting contributing on the process of Vietnam mordern Fine Art development.
