Visual Revolution:The Research Of “Huaxue” Calligraphy

For a long time, there is a common understanding of the calligraphy community,that in the three thousand years of Chinese calligraphy has a history of two kinds of systems, system of “Tiexue” calligraphy and system of “Beixue” calligraphy.But we know the occasion of Ming and Qing Dynasties as an age of drastic change in terms of art, a trend of calligraphy which depart from both two systems has just transformed. Here, the writer called “Huaxue” calligraphy. This“Huaxue” calligraphy was developed in the middle of the Qing Dynasty and in twentieth Century.“Huaxue” calligraphy requires artists to melt concepts of brushwork and modeling techniques into calligraphy creation, which is different from the traditional calligraphy as well as the “painter’s calligraphy”. In the meantime,“Huaxue” calligraphy corresponds to “painterly characterized calligraphy”which, at the same time, is opposing to “calligraphy characterized painting” that is appeared after Yuan Dynasty. This kind of opposition has already brought different spirit of ages and artistic features. For the reason above, the writer started from “Huaxue” calligraphy to define the relevant concepts, then analyzed the motivation of conformation of “Huaxue” calligraphy so as to reveal the artistic achievements of “Huaxue” calligraphy and aesthetic value. Ultimately, to discuses the historical significance of what “Huaxue” calligraphy brought for the inheritance, extension and innovation of “Tiexue” calligraphy and “Beixue”calligraphy. In a word, “Huaxue”calligraphy is a great visual revolution.
