Broadly speaking, Jianzhi is a finished and high-quality writing paper, which mainly used for writing and painting and calligraphy works; from the narrow sense, Jianzhi mainly refers to letter paper in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Letters is the oldest way of communication, records of the ancient social relations tenderness, and is closely related to the history of calligraphy. Jianzhi carried the ancient culture and splendid Letters written culture as a writing support. In order to have a good writing feeling and beautiful appearance, Paper texture and patterns of Jianzhi were improved, whith reflecting the ancient design thinking.The first part of this paper is mainly analyzed the definition and characteristics and history of Jianzhi in a broad sense. Zuobo Paper in Han Dynasty is an model of early Jianzhi. The term "Jian" had emerged in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, such as Five Colored Jian, red Jian, related terms appeared in large numbers in the Tang Dynasty literary works. With the cultural background analysis, we can speculate that Jianzhi be the rage may be related to literary activities, such as antiphon and other feast. Highly acclaimed Xuetao Jian is present in Late Tang when poems of making friends and exchange prevailing. In addition, Jianzhi used in court become the leading fashion model, with its excellent materials and craftwork, such as the Chengxin Hall Paper in Southern Church and Mingren Temple Paper In Xuande period of Ming Dynasty. Buddhist Sutra paper is favored by scholars, with its unique workmanship and durability. Ccolor is the focus of the Jianzhi in Tang Dynasty, when the quality is in Song Dynasty, Jianzhi in Late Ming began a change from the rustic to the ornate, with the prosperity of Book Engraving Industry and advances in engraving technology. Patterns became a focus of the Jianzhi production, and influenced the fashion since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The second part analyzes the relationship Jianzhi and calligraphy. The texture, shape or decoration of generalized Jianzhi is always unique, and may have an impact on the writing. The ancients pay attention to reconcile of brush and ink, Jianzhi with different surface textures not only produce different ink performance results, but also affect writing fluency, especially in calligraphy of Tie style. The change of shape and size have influenced on Manifestations of calligraphy and the style development. In addition, this part arranged the performance characteristics of specific Jianzhi.The third part is the analysis of the design of the Jianzhi, Mainly in the letter paper as the research object. In the specific social background in the late Ming Dynasty, great changes have taken place in the design of Jianzhi, the pattern is rich, and developed the unique pattern types in stationery under the new design idea. In this part, we classify the pattern of the paper at first, then summarize the design and characteristics of them. The type of decoration and forms of Jianzhi show transition from craftsman style to civilian taste. Jianzhi design followed the doctrine of the mean, make patterns and preset inking joined by particular way, such as reduced contrast patterns and using special composition, weakening patterns of performance tension, and develop woodblock overprint and "Gong Hua" techniques.The third part is the analysis of the design of the Jianzhi, Mainly in the letter paper as the research object.
