Research On The Transformation Of Ge Fei’s Novel Creations

Ge Fei once wrote in the preface of his novel collection (Shanghai:Shanghai Wenyi Press,2014)," Reading my previous work......and always be amazed by my writing changes in decades." After30years of writing career, Ge Fei experienced the change of the times and the change of the social aesthetic. After the improvement of the academic level and survival experience, his creation concept has got a dramatic shift. He jumped out of the "narrative maze" game of early Avant Garde which focused on "how to write". By the reference of the narrative model in traditional literature, Ge Fei use the fullness of flesh and blood characters and complete clear story to express the spiritual predicament of the social reality. Meanwhile, he point out a road of the hope to salvation for people who are in desperation. This article attempts to analyze the creation ideas, character images, narration types and language utilization of his works from different periods, in order to show more intuitive about the novel creation transformation embodied in his works.Firstly, there is a brief overview of Ge Fei’s novel creation in the introduction and divide his creation into early pioneer writing period, pioneer transformation and transition stage of the trial period, and the main works of this three periods has carried on the simple introduction and analysis. The article in the second chapter entered on the investigation to Ge Fei’s novel creation idea transformation. This shift is mainly includes three aspects. He changes from merely use historical background for the "stage of fixed" response to real insight into the social reality and the interaction of individual mental states. He changes from the character destine dominated by personal desire to the individual control inner firmly "spirit" in order to achieve the desire to break. He changes from rendering on fear, despair and death to look for "bright" utopian journey of redemption. Ge Fei completed the transition from the "form pioneer" to "spirit pioneer". The third chapter is based on the contrast of the typical characters in the works such as "female" and "intellectual", combined with analysis of the similarities and differences in different periods of characterization methods, showing the Ge Fei’s character by thin "symbol" to full personal transformation. The fourth chapter is the key section of this article, it include two parts inspected the narrative techniques and the transformation of language application in Ge Fei’s novel. It first summarizes "narrative collage","narrative space" and "narrative repetition skill" in Ge Fei’s early pioneer novels, and compares with the complete clear narrative in "Jiangnan Trilogy". Secondly, the specific text analysis towards Ge Fei’s works in the new century and in the eighty’s (mainly the Jiangnan Trilogy) clearly show his distinctive language features in different periods. Chapter5based on the change of social environment and personal attitude, make a brief analysis of the external and internal reasons of the Ge Fei’s novel creation transformation. The conclusion part is a investigation of the integration of "traditional" and "innovation" efforts. Facing the awkward position of modern literature, this is a simple evaluation of the significance of the creative transformation of Ge Fei.
