Nouns have the spatiality, adjectives reflect nature and state. In actual language use, nouns sometimes can enter the adjective syntax position reflecting the traits. Nouns and adjectives of crossing function and sense have brought new challenges to the Chinese word classification and word class system. We first review the research on modern Chinese nouns and adjectives in grammar semantic and other aspects, then according to the theory of prototype category theory, continuum and theory of pragmatic frequency, investigate and study the/Words Commonly Used in Modern Chinese/. We put/The Modern Chinese Dictionary/(fifth edition) as a standard to determine the parts of speech, pick out the nouns in/Words Commonly Used in Modern Chinese/,and find corpus of every noun in Beijing university corpus of modern Chinese, analyze the grammatical functions of the nouns in each of the corpus. After investigation, we found that there are17687nouns in/Words Commonly Used in Modern Chinese/with single noun characteristics, which have204adjectivized nouns,1.15%of the total number of single noun properties. The results showed that the most combination is adverb and noun, which is can reflect characteristics of nature and state. Corpus of the combination of "最" and noun is most. The combination of nouns and adverbs are very diverse. We call the nouns which reflect nature and state adjectivized nouns. They are nouns, but not adjective. They have the basic characteristics of the nouns, also have some features of adjectives, not multi-category words. The internal cause of nouns adjectivized is semantic, external cause is pragmatic frequency. Syntactic combination is the bridge of internal cause and external cause. Adjectivized nouns research has shown that the pragmatic frequency as the standard of Chinese word class is objectively feasible.
