The Historic Background of National Art Institute of Tun-Huang (Dunhuang)National Art Institute of Tun-Huang (Dunhuang), located at Dunhuang Grottoes, established in January1944, was regarded the most prominent site museum during the Resistance War against Japanese (RWAJ) period in China.The origin of National Art Institute of Tun-Huang was the result and in connection with the the following factors:1. The government policy of development in the Northwest region of China during RWAJ period2. The employment of Chinese military forces in Hehsi (Hexi) Corridor in Gansu province (1942)3. China’s regain of control and the executive power over Hsinchiang (Xinjiang) province (1942)Government made great efforts to counteract the Japanese military and economic blockade in China, resulted in a significant improvement of the communication and transportation in the remote Dunhuang area. Also, owing to the elite participants, the construction in Lanzhou city (the capital of Gansu province), and the outset of oil produce in Youmen oil deposit, one of the most important state-run enterprises in China then, all benefit the development of National Art Institute of Tun-Huang.At that time, the public officifials conducting investigations and academic researches in Hehsi (Hexi) Corridor and the Dunhuang Grottoes, were only a few in number but with professional predominance--they lived on two sides of Taiwan Strait since1949. And the correlative historiographies were therefore kept separately across the Strait.Based on the above historiographies, including official documents, correspondences, personal diaries, etc., this thesis is to provide a comprehensive study on the historic background of the set-up of National Art Institute of Tun-Huang, and a comparison on the change of time over the years. |
