The early30years of People’s Republic of China is a time full of revolutionary passion. With people’s political enthusiasm and national thriving construction, the field of culture and art is approaching an unprecedented new situation. It is in the passionate red era that there comes a large number of the classic thematic art works in this thriving vast land. During this period, following the experience of Soviet Union and the call of the Communist Party, using the creation technique of combination of revolutionary realism and romanticism, the artists highly pfaise our motherland, the heroes of workers, peasants and soldiers, the new socialistic things with sincere attitude and strong passion. They create extensive thematic works of rich ideological contents as well as aesthetic form. Regardless of oil painting, Chinese painting, prints, sculpture or other art categories, most of the works are of political contents and distinct time characteristics. Serving politics is an important feature of art in this period. The beginning30years of People’s Republic of China is the a harvest time of realism fine art creation. A large number of classic fine art works are the image of the red era.In this period, the art works on revolutionary and historical theme especially shine in the creation. Groups of these works bring the widespread social influence and they are of important status and significance in Chinese modern art history. National Museum of China has always been playing an important role in the creative organization, collection, protection, research of the art works on revolutionary and historical theme. National Museum of China was formerly known as Chinese Revolution Museum and Chinese History Museum. Due to the political campaigns and the major display of ideology, in the history of National Museum of China, there were four times large-scale creative organizations of the art works on revolutionary and historical theme in1951,1958,1965and1970,which are important chapters in art history of People’s Republic of China. And because of the organization, a large number of red classical art works which play an important role in Chinese modern art history were created and preserved.This thesis focuses on the origin and the course of the creative activity, along with the research of some representative image about the red classical art works collected in National Museum of China, referring to the effect of state system on planning, organization, guidance of the creative activity and transmission, collection of the art works. Specifically, through the study to abundant historical document collected in National Museum of China, the thesis make a meticulous analysis and clear conclusion about the art creation on revolutionary and historical theme. Especially because of some document appeared for the first time in the history, which provide a faithful source for the research, we could mostly restore the original state of history, know about some recondite details and inside information in the creation process and get a thorough understanding of the art creation.In the first part of the thesis, the art history of People’s Republic of China and the development of National Museum of China are reviewed. They are the background of the art creation on revolutionary and historical theme, which involves the relevance of development of art of People’s Republic of China and the art creation on revolutionary and historical theme. From the realism steering and the complex art phenomenon in the early30years, we can find that the practical requirement of the art creation on revolutionary and historical theme adapt to the development of main structure of art of People’s Republic of China. The art works on revolutionary and historical theme collected in National Museum of China is nurtured in the social soil of a certain historical stage. Besides, these creative activities also correspond to function necessity and the historical process of the National Museum, by sorting the historical materials, which can be proved in the creation of the corresponding works.In the second part, the thesis makes an analysis of the historical materials as specifically as possible. At the beginning of the founding of People’s Republic of China, along with the four times large-scale art creation on revolutionary and historical theme organized by National Museum of China, there’re also many further explorations to art creation on revolutionary and historical theme. In the thesis, the collection, sorting and analysis to the historical materials are made on the aspects of historical background, organization causation, guidance, exhibition arrangement, the creation mode, the creative process, works modification etc. in the art creation and according to some private documents collected in National Museum of China, thus some usual inaccurate statements are revised.In the third part, some classical art works of the greatest social influence are analyzed as the example and the some issues related to art creation of People’s Republic of China in this period are discussed. Based on the tridimensional background of the development of art of People’s Republic of China, along the thread of the development of art history of People’s Republic of China, comparing the classic art works on similar theme collected in National Museum of China and other related art organization, the common feature in these red classic art works is so clear, that is the subject,the content and the artistic language are of the characteristics in specific time as well as the Chinese style. In the fourth part, through sorting creative activities, the overall mode and patterns of art creation on revolutionary and historical theme is summarized. By tracing the leading ideological tenet and function target in the creation and through the analysis to the ideological principle, subject selection, creation technique, works’characteristics etc. in the art creation on revolutionary and historical theme, the purpose is to place emphasis on the spirit and value in the art works on revolutionary and historical theme. In the conclusion part, it is the concise generalization to the significance of National Museum system in the organization, exhibition, publishing, collection and research. Extending to the associated topics, it’s necessary to make a further discussion on influence of the target of national ideology and national culture system to the art creation mode on revolutionary and historical theme, the art tradition of People’s Republic of China, the development of contemporary Chinese art. Through the investigation to the ideological functions, operation structure and social influence in museum and other national cultural institutions, it’s necessary to make a further exploration about leading role of the national system to art development.
