As a sunrise industry of the21stcentury, the role of the culture industry in the socialdevelopment is becoming more and more prominent. In the development of contemporaryChinese society, culture industry facilitates the process of social economy and undertakes theresponsibility for the development of culture. To be specific, without the culture industry, it isimpossible to meet people’s growing spiritual and cultural needs of their lives; without theculture industry, it is impossible to facilitate the sustainable development of economy andfasten the adjustment to the industrial structure. To strengthen the Chinese main-streamideology, to highlight the socialist core value system, to improve the national soft power, andto raise the national comprehensive strength and international competitiveness, these all haveclose relationship with the culture industry. Facing the globalization, China regards its cultureindustry development as opportunities and challenges. It is crucial for China to pay closeattention and makes profound interpretation to the new rising industry which greatlyinfluences social development and people’s life of China. Culture industry differentiates fromthe commodity production sector, which exists in the pure physical form, and it cannot bedefined as common economic activity. Instead, the culture industry is closely relevant tovarious aspects such as economy, politics, culture, and even to the aspect of personalrecreation. During the complicated productive process of culture industry, based on their owninterests and needs, the different participants will have various senses of value to thoseservices and products offered by culture industry. Since they are whether producers orconsumers, and manufactures or managers who are from either the internal or the external,and the domestic or the international community.This thesis is based on the status quo of the culture industry in China, concentrating onbuilding the socialism with Chinese characteristics and facilitating the establishment ofsocialist core value system. This thesis aims to study and research on the issue of China’sculture industry’s value orientation. The abstract of the dissertation is as follows:Introduction: This part introduces the fundamental situation on topic-choosing of thisthesis, including the decision on setting the starting point of the topic; the reason why choosethe value orientation of China’s culture industry as the research orientation; the theoreticaland practical significance of study; the structure of the dissertation; the theoretical directionand research methods.Chapter1:The interpretation of basic issues in the culture industry. To start the researchand study on the culture industry, a theoretical understanding and analysis should be given toseveral basic topics on culture industry, including the basic concepts on culture industry, thecategories of culture industry, the attributes of culture industry, the functions of the cultureindustry, and the traits of culture industry. Various understandings and analysis have beenmade by the theorists and scholars from all around the world. Whereas, this dissertation illustrates these basic theoretical issues, which based on China’s basic condition of theestablishment of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Chapter2: The theoretical study and status quo of development of culture industry.Chapter One horizontally analyzes the basic theoretical issues of culture industry. Thischapter, however, vertically argues and analyzes the elemental theoretical issues of cultureindustry through the process of culture industry development around the world. Thisargumentation and analysis include the practices of culture industry development and theexperience obtained from those practices. This chapter includes the following discussions:The theoretical study on culture industry overseas, the status quo of culture industry overseas,the process of China’s culture industry development and the status quo of China’s cultureindustry.The culture industry originated from western countries. Many theorists have beenresearching on and discussing about various issues of culture industry in the developmentprocess of the culture industry. From the critiques on culture industry by Frankfurt School tothe acceptance of culture industry by Birmingham School, eventually, to the identification ofculture industry by American theoretical circles, the western developed countries’ study ofculture industry has been gradually developing and been maturing. The culture industry hasbecome a certain scale in some western developed countries such as America, developedcountries in Europe, and Japan, Korea in Asia. The culture industry has become the mainstayin those countries and each country made various policies with their society characteristics.As a result, there are many experiences could be drawn as references for China’s cultureindustry.The culture industry was brought into China after the reform and opening-up with thepractical development of the culture industry. It experienced a gradual development processfor the identification and acceptance by theorists circle and the Communist Party of Chinaand government. Since the industry in China entered into the developing period, thedevelopment of industry has made many changes to China’s politics, economy and culture.Chapter3: The value orientation of ideology and culture industry. Ideology is afundamental issue that involves in the development of culture and culture industry. Theattributes of ideology are the factor that distinguishes culture industry from other physicalindustries. The attributes are also the element issues on the developing orientation of cultureindustry. It is significant for us to understand and analyze the value orientation frommulti-aspects. This chapter includes: the ideology of culture industry, the productionoperating system of culture industry and ideology, the sector for ideology and cultureindustry and the mainstream ideology and development of culture industry.The issue of ideology is throughout the complete process of production andconsumption of culture industry. In the process of developing the culture industry, we shouldconcentrate on the relation between ideology and development of culture industry. We shouldestablish the mainstream ideology as the major function. At the same time, we should payattention to obtain the social effect and economic benefit. In addition, the culture industry should be utilized as the accelerator to the prosperity of socialism culture.Chapter4: The value orientation of globalization and China’s culture industry. As adynamic developing tendency and process, globalization emerged in the area of economics.And then it spread into cultural and scientific technology areas. Globalization is both anopportunity and a challenge for China’s culture industry. In the circumstances ofglobalization, China’s culture industry can make use of internal and external sources andmarkets, absorb foreign capitals, technology and managerial experiences, and realize its rapiddevelopment. Beyond all question, China is profoundly influenced by globalization. Forinstance, western developed countries have popularized their cultural values, social valuesduring the cultural exchanges and cultural trades with China due to their dominated positionin terms of culture industry. This chapter includes: The development of globalization andChina’s culture industry; the dual-effects brought by the globalization to the development ofChina’s culture industry; to fulfill the benign development of culture industry orientation andto actively deal with the globalization.As a developing country, we should actively deal with the globalization, grasp theopportunities, relieve the conflicts, and achieve the development of culture industry.Combined with the facilitation of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics, thedevelopment and prosperity of culture industry should be put into practices as well. Withglobalization processes rapidly, we should transform the culture industry into the carrier andchannel to enhance the effect of mainstream ideology and socialist core value system.Chapter5: Countermeasure and choice: The establishment of value orientation ofChina’s culture industry, in fact,(is a systematic project to achieve the correct valueorientation of culture industry and collaborating endeavors from various levels of societyare required. In details, from the macro-guiding by the Party and government of China tothe micro-manufacturing by culture corporations are required to concentrate on the valueorientation of culture industry issues)This chapter includes: the theoretical direction onvalue orientation of China’s culture industry; the culture system and the value orientation ofculture industry; several issues of value orientation that should be dealt with properly.We should attach importance to the issue of value orientation of culture industry. Weshould absorb experience from the national level of policy guidance to the producing processof culture corporations. It is a significant mission for us to observe that the culture industry isone of the special industries. The developing direction of culture industry is not only closelyrelevant to the construction of advanced socialist culture, but also to the guiding role ofmainstream ideology. It is not only related to the establishment of socialist core value system,but also to the construction of China’s soft power. Including: to realize the theoreticalguidance of value orientation of culture industry; to deepen structural reform in thecultural field, and promote the achievement of value orientation of culture industry; tofully play the leading function of The party and government of China’s value orientationof culture industry; to achieve the value orientation of culture industry by enlarging andenforcing the culture industry. The issue of value orientation should be merged into the development of cultureindustry from the aspect of enacting the policy and guiding the process of producing ofculture industry. The development of culture industry is a key issue which is relevant tothe culture construction of advanced socialist culture, to the guiding position ofmainstream ideology, and to the construction of national soft power and popularize thecore value system of socialist. It is imperative to manage the relationships among themainstream ideology, the core value system of socialist, the development of cultureindustry. To verify the countermeasure and developing route of realizing the valueorientation of culture industry, specific measurements should be adopted and utilizedfrom the aspects of developing future of China’s socialist and the vital interests of themass of people.
