The Research Of The Hua Ji

The book Hua ji written by Deng Chun has been canonized and won rave review from the critics since it was published publiclyjust as thebook Si Ku Quan Shu goes:"Just as a contemporary person,Deng Chun discussion contemporary art, and talk about things that Guo Ruo XU missing.....It Is indeed the basis of the connoisseur." Hua ji has the academic significance and historical influences.Although there are a lot of previous researches on the book, compared to the studies done on the books of the records of Art history and the Picture of knowledge, it still required advanced aesthetical research in this field.My thesis falls into two sections. In the first,we look at the prosperity and new aspect created by literati and their participation to paintings in Song Dynasty and provides a comprehensive account for the theoritical framework of literati painting constructed by Deng Chun. Based on "painter is the ultimate of literature"principle, the thesis promotes a fuller understanding of the attribution of Hua ji to Chinese aesthetic history and Chinese painting history. In the second section we collate and annotate the book hua ji based on cheng dao ren’s version, also the edition’s system headstream of huaji is explored.Modern theorists explained Deng chun’s words from different aspects. We consider it elaborates the features of paintings in Song Dynasty,that is, poetic paintings, conceptual paitings,literature paintings.Hu ji is an exhibition of literati from different social classess in Song Dynasty practicing painting. Deng Chun summarizes with the words:hua zhe,wen zhi ji ye.’Hu ji is mainly talking about how the artists contributed to the development of the unique characteristic of the paintings:’hua zhe,wen zhi ji ye’from later Northern Song to Southern Song.Among them,there are also emperors,Taoists,xuan mian cai xuan,yan xue shang tujin sheng wei bu,even noble women,painters.Mr Xushucheng has ever said:’There are two features in paintings of Song Dynasty. First, two conflicting views, realism and abstractism,co-exist in the paiting:,but they have equal significance in paintings of Song Dynasty. Second, it develops the ’yi shi ru hua’ aesthetical standard. About this we have our own thought. Firstly, the paintings of Song Dynasty not only embody the ’shi yi hua’ principle with the efforts of people from different kinds of classed, also it realizes the ’xie yi hua,wen ren hua’ value of painting.That’s the reason why, later, so-called literati painting reaches its peak in Yuan Dynasty. In Song Dynasty, literati practice drawing to cater for their own interests. They are elites at that time. Drawing,for them, is not a way to make livings,but a method to express their rich emotions and deep thought. What’s more, they talor it to their own needs. If literati painting began from Wei Jin to Tang Dynasty, shi ren hua,then, is the further development of literati painting. The property of shi ren hua in Song Dynasty build the solid foundation for the development of later literati painting.Secondly, the statement "painter is the ultimate of literature" is a general picture of the painting skills practiced in Song Dynasty. What’s more, it’s the aesthetic value construction of "literati painting". According to Deng Chun’s theory,literature and painting should converge very well, which made profound influence on the development of literati paintings. The book hua ji highlights the creation of artistic conception of paintings by integrating Chinese calligraphy and literature into paintings, which the concept of later literati paintings. Deng Chun perfects the literati painting theory on the basis of the concept ’shi ren hua’ put forward by shu shi.In this sense, we think Deng Chun contributes to the development of Chinese aesthetic value, that is literature paintings by the construction of "painter is the ultimate of literature" theory.People in Song Dynasty research history for social reform and historical innovation. Deng Chun wrote the book "Hua ji", a master piece of historical science in painting of our country, with a strong sense of responsibility as a historian. There are three important works in art history from Tang Dynasty to Song Dynasty. The three works, the records of Art history、the Picture of knowledge, and Hua ji connects a series of historical events according continuity and supplement each other.The book Hua ji has great historical signicifance in two ways. Firstly, it is the heritage of tradition and a further research after the records of Art history and the Picture of knowledge,. The history of painting from xi ning7years of Northern Song to Qian dao3years is recorded in detail in this book. Secondly, it creates annal-biography style in Chinese art historical books, which set a good model for later writers. Taking the time as the longitudinal coordinate and historical events as horizontal coordinate, the book presents an vivid picture of Chinese art history from Xi ning7years of Northern Song to Qian dao3years. It is used as a reference by younger generations,but no one did better than Deng Chun.From above, we think Deng Chun wrote a groundwork for Hua ji, a major work in Chinese art history and aesthetical history.
