ZhuBingYuanHouLun (hereinafter referred to as "BingYuan") as the first monograph on etiology, pathogenesis and syndromes, established at the Sui Dynasty and had been respected since the Song Dynasty with academic influence of great and far-reaching. Although this monograph is not focused on acupuncture, but the collection contains the contents of theory of medicine including acupuncture is very comprehensive and abundant. BingYuan accomplished by the government in the early Sui Dynasty inherited medical achievements of the Jin, southern and Northern Dynasties. By studying acupuncture theory of BingYuan, it is able to glimpse at the development situation at that time, and reveal the cognition and significance of acupuncture theory. At the same time, studying BingYuan acupuncture theory by academic development perspective provides some reference to understand the develop situation of acupuncture theory in Sui Dynasty. This research is mainly divided into two parts, first part is to sort and analyse basic contents of acupuncture and moxibustion of BingYuan; the second part is to sum up about acupuncture and related content of characteristics, application, development.First, based on the extraction, statistics, consolidation and classification of acupuncture and related content content, it appears that, meridian contained in the content source of the most abundant. Therefore, the content of channels and collaterals in order for meridian, meridian cycle, meridian syndrome, Qi abnormal parts to be discussed and analyzed. The main function of meridians are nutrition, communication, transmission, diagnosis and etc. BingYuan not only has discussed the nutritional function of Qi and Blood, but also has paid much attention to the pathological state caused by lack of Qi and Blood. The communication functions of meridian in the book mainly have involved in the exteriororinterior relationships between organs and meridians. Besides, a lot of diseases in the book reveal the biphasic transmission of pathogen. In the diagnostic aspect, it has been discussed the applications of collaterals inspection and meridians listening. And it has been given consideration of comparison the connotation difference between NeiJing and BingYuan. Then the relationship between meridian circulation and diseases has been figured prominently. In terms of meridian diseases, syndromes of the main and collateral channels and eight extra channels has been organized and some important and particular diseased has been detailed analysed, including heartache, bleeding, facial features diseases, hair diseases, backache and etc.In addition, pathological changes caused by Abnormal Qi has been discussed and classified as four parts, such as deficiency and excess, circulation obstacles, circulation in the wrong direction and extinguish of Qi.Since Bingyuan has barely talked about treatment, the acupoint contents haven’t been as rich as meridians. There are mainly five back Shenshu Point, contained in the stroke of the wind disease, women and miscellaneous diseases, pediatric diseases adopting the emergency moxibustion treatment, also appeared in the ulcer disease in uncooperative provisions. Five Shu Points, respectively in heat toxin attack hand foot syndrome of seasonal disorders, fever, typhoid fever. There has been a small amount of Fengfu, Guan Yuan and other specific acupoints content. The contents of six meridians in BingYuan, mainly included in exogenous febrile diseases, assembling the theoretical understanding of NeiJing, Nanjing and ShangHanLun. Under the influence of six-meridian theory, BingYuan has set the course of disease as guiding principle to discuss various development of exogenous febrile diseases and rules. The acupuncture and moxibution treatment content contained in BingYuan is less and the majority of the treatment content originating from previous literature. The treatments mentioned in BingYuan respectively are in diseases as stroke, exogenous febrile diseases, ulcer, inside organ diseases, pediatric diseases and so on. About the pulse diagnosis, it has been concluded that BingYuan mainly cited the arguments from MaiJing and reorganized them.Daoyin as part of research on acupuncture related theory reference has slight significance and resulted in rough discussion. The second part, there were three main features of acupuncture theory in BingYuan.First, through the literature comparison method and literature metrology method, the pathogenic theory of acupuncture and moxibustion mainly from Nei Jing, the classical theory of the inheritance. At the same time, from the source of the book features, theory of acupuncture is characterized and guided by pathology.Second, the use of the classical theory of acupuncture disease has inherited but also developped. Expanded the scope of application of meridian in a certain extent, especially the meridian syndromes. The connotation of blood and collaterals also have some development.Third, as the main features of acupuncture theory of BingYuan has been concluded as combination with the theory of internal organs, and dominated by Zang Fu theory.Anyway, this study based in the acupuncture and related theory of a pathological literature, has demonstrated academic value of acupuncture theory with no close concern before. And also for the academic development of acupuncture and moxibustion research relatively weak link, namely after the Han Dynasty, before the Tang Dynasty, this period of time, this research would provide some basic research and limited reference.
