ObjectiveWith a randomized controlled method, to observe and analyze the clinical efficacy of "connecting and regulating Ren-Du meridian" and traditional Chinese medicine on perimenopausal insomnia with syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney, to provide a simple, inexpensive conducive and widely effective therapy for the treatment of perimenopausal insomnia.MethodsIn this study, all the patients were from Cheung Ka Yi Chinese Medicine Clinic from January 2014 to February 2015. All those 60 patients meet the Chinese and western diagnostic standards and inclusion criteria. With a randomized dividing method by computer,60 patients were allocated to two groups (treatment group and control group). Treatment group("connecting and regulating Ren-Du meridian" with Chinese medicine group) was given acupuncture therapy, with acupoints of Baihui, Shenting, Qihai, Guanyuan, San yinjiao, Shenmen, Shenshu, Xinshu, Taixi, Zhaohai, Dal ing, keeping the needle for 30 minutes (treated on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and took herbal "Jiao Tai Wan" at the same time (treated from Monday to Friday), totally four weeks for a course. While the control group was given herbal "Jiao Tai Wan" only, with the same way to take as that of the treatment group. After the course of treatment, to observe the changes of the factors and the total score of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), modified Kupperman score and Insomnia score of "syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney".The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS17.0.ResultsComparison of clinical efficacy:In 29 cases(1 case displaced)of the treatment group, with 14 cases cured,8 cases markedly effective,3 cases ineffective, the total effective rate was 89.7%;In 29 cases(1 case displaced) of the control group, With 8 cases cured,6 cases markedly effective, 8 cases ineffective, the total effective rate was 72.4%. The efficacy of the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05), which indicated that the clinical effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group.PSQI scores:(1) Before and after treatment, both PSQI total score and the 7 ingredient scores in the treatment group are significantly different (P< 0.05). Suggesting that the treatment group can improve total PSQI score and the 7 ingredient scores. (2) In control group, the total PSQI score and 6 ingredient scores(the sleep quality, sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep disorders, hypnotic drugs, daytime function) were significantly different before and after the treatment (P<0.05). While the difference of sleep time between two groups was unstatistically significant (P>0.05). Suggesting:the control group can improve the total PSQI scoreand 6 ingredient scores except sleep time. (3) After treatment,7 groups of PSQI score and total score were compared. The falling sleep time, sleep time, sleep efficiency, daytime function and total score were significantly different (P<0.05), while the sleep quality, sleep disorder and sedative drugs were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Suggesting:on comparing imporvemnt of the falling sleep time, sleep time, sleep efficiency, day function and total score, the effect is better in the treatment group than that in the control group. (4) After 3 months, comparing the PSQI total score between two groups before and after treatment, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05). It is suggested that two groups still can reduce the total score of PSQI after 3 months. After 3 months, the PSQI score of treatment group compared with the control group, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05). It is suggested that the treatment group in reducing total score of PSQI was superior to the control group after 3months.ESS scores:Comparing the ESS score of both groups before and after treatment, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that both groups can reduce ESS score. After treatment, Comparing the ESS score between two groups of ESS, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that the treatment group in reducing ESS score is better than the control group.Modified Kupperman score:Comparing modified Kupperman score of both groups before and after treatment, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that the two groups can reduce the modified Kupperman score. Comparing modified Kupperman score between two groups, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that the treatment group in the improvement of Modified Kupperman score is better than the control group.Insomnia score of "syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney" Comparing this score of both groups before and after treatment, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that the two groups can reduce the this score. Comparing this score between two groups, the statistical difference is significant (P<0.05), suggesting that the treatment group in the improvement of this score is better than the control group.Conclusion1. "connecting and regulating Ren-Du meridian" with Chinese medicine group and Chinese medicine group can treat insomnia, in improving PSQI score, ESS score, the modified Kupperman score and Insomnia score of "syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney" has an obvious effect.2. In improving PSQI score (which sleep time, sleep time, sleep efficiency, daytime function four factors and total score), the ESS score, Modified Kupperman score and Insomnia score of "syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney", the effect of "connecting and regulating Ren-Du meridian" with Chinese medicine group is better than that of Chinese medicine group.3. The PSQI score of after 3 month of "connecting and regulating Ren-Du meridian" with Chinese medicine group was better than of Chinese medicine group.
