Objective:With social environment became more and more complicate, with the life stress increased, the incidence of emotional disease increased. So the diagnosis and treatment of such kind of diseases had been paid more and more attention. There are more and more clinical studies on the syndrome differentiation of emotional diseases. The descriptions of emotional diseases in Shang Han Lun were very detailed, and the effects of herbs and formulas mentioned in the book were very good. The routine and flexible thinking used in the syndrome differentiation of emotional diseases were demonstrated through studying some emotional diseases commonly seen in clinic, such as dysphoria, delirium, manic psychosis and insomnia. Methods:In this research, typical cases were offered for each disease and syndrome. The syndrome differentiations were made from the standpoint of flexible thinking. So when we did research on the treating of emotional diseases of Zhang Zhongjing, the specific experience of herbs and formulas should be studied, the spirit of syndrome differentiation should also be learned. We must break with the traditional viewpoint that Each formula corresponds to each syndrome. It has gotten good benefit in Syndrome Differentiation and thery of emotional diseases with Chaihuji. Conclusion:The important role of the routine and flexible syndrome differentiation thinking in the diagnosis and treatment of emotional diseases were demonstrated in this research.
