Objectives:The prevalence of depression is much higher in the patients with coronary artery disease compared with the general population. More importantly, depression is believed to be one of the independent risk factors of poor prognosis after CABG surgery. The current researches on depression of coronary disease patient in China are insufficient, this study aim to obtain better understand on this issue. Moreover, some evidence showed that statin could improve depression in patients with coronary artery disease. However, inconsistent results render the effect of statin on depression in patient undergone CABG surgery. This study is designed to elucidate the effect of statin on depression in patients undergoing coronary bypass Grafting surgery.Methods:This study was designed as a double blind random control trial.387consecutive patients undergoing first-time elective coronary bypass surgery in Fuwai Hospital from the time of July10,2012to October30,2013were included. The exclusion criteria include:(1) less than18years of age,(2) previous CABG or the surgery is canceled (3) communicational difficulties (4) history of mental illness,(5) inability to take the distributed drug for the whole month,(6) quit voluntarily. Each participant was evaluated at least3days before and1month after surgery using Hamilton depression Scale-17for depression, and SF-36survey for quality of life. The study protocol was approved by the local Ethics Committee and was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Patients were included in the study after informed consent had been obtained.Results:The study population consists of387participants with a mean age of61.2±8.4years and20.9%were female. Among all the included participants,249cases of hypertension (66.8%);120cases of diabetes (32.3%);246cases of hyperlipidemia (66.0%);44cases have stroke history (11.8%)。27.9%met the criteria of diagnosis of depressive disorders before surgery,14.5%met the criteria after surgery.
