Nowadays, viral diseases often make us sick and even to death, which severely affects people’s health. For example, HIV, EEB and HBV led to increasing the rate of death in the developing or developed regions of the world. HSV and ADV do not cause a panic. If they are ingnored or treated with incorrect measures, which will result in many people losing their lives. Therefore, antiviral drug has attracted many researchers’intense attention. However, many side effects resulting from these synthetic drugs make researchers to explore natural compounds from the edible and medical plants which possess low toxicity property and are the important sources of antiviral lead drugsIn order to find antiviral agents with novel structure and low toxicity from the edible and medical plants, our group studied the chemical constituents from the stems, leaves, and roots of Schisandra chinensis and the fruits of Schisandra sphenthera collected in the Shanxi Province of China, and their antiviral activities have been investigated in this dissertation. From the Schisandra genus plants,95compounds were obtained, including22highly oxygenated triterpenoids,12triterpenoids,20sesquiterpenoids,38lignanas, and other types of compounds. Among of them, one compound was a new skeleton (compound1), and12compounds were identified to be new ones including10highly oxygenated triterpenoids (compounds2-11),1lignan (compound60), and1sesquiterpenoid (compound77).Within the series of compounds tested against HSV-2and ADV, highly oxygenated triterpenoid12,13and lignan73were more active than other compounds in the inhibition of HSV-2with selectivity index value23.32,29.55,29.83, respectively; and new skeleton1、highly oxygenated triterpenoid12、trieterpenoid19and lignan60、69exhibited more active against ADV with selectivity index value13.75、13.67、15.89、14.92、15.78, respectively. In this dissertation, terpenoid compounds with potentially useful anti-HSV activities have been reviewed in the period1985-2013.3.The dissertation would be a supplement for the research for the inhibitor of ADV and HSV-2from the edible and medical plants as well as structure-activities relationship, helpful reference for chemotaxonomy, nutriology and pharmacology, and screening new antiviral drugs, and may benefit utilizing and developing the edible and medical plant resources of our country.
