Research On Economic Value Of King Grass Germlasm Resources For China

With the rapid development of human civilization and the progress achieved in biotechnology, crop germplasm resources which is the key strategic resources for human survival and development, provides an inexhaustible source of genes for the study and breeding of new varieties of biotechnic crops. Crop germplasm resources is also critically important to guarantee technological innovation, enhance overall national strength, maintain national food security and achieve the sustainable development of agriculture. Thorough in-depth research and protective usage of crop germplasm resources is extremely important, belonging to critically important areas meeting human needs, national needs, industry requirements and farmers needs.Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, an important part of crop germplasm resources, is also one of the backbones of forage germplasm resources for flourishing rural economy, promoting agricultural development and helping farmers to get richer and richer. All along, the hot research field of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm is mainly focused on the breeding of better varieties, high yield cultivation techniques, the better promotion and application of Pennisetum purpureum.The potential research evaluation and the economic value of Pennisetum purpureum in a combination of economics and agronomy perspective is still a blank.In this study, the comprehensive economic value of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm was evaluated for the first time by the theory of value in economics and the economic evaluation methods, by literature studies and investigation research, by combining macro analysis and micro-analysis, by combining empirical analysis and technical analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.Policy suggestions beneficial for government departments, corporation and farmers were provided based on the perspective of technology, function and benefit by utilizing Pennisetum purpureum germplasm.From the technical aspect of utilizing Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, the research focus of our study is to solve the problem of whether Pennisetum purpureum can be planted or not. Based on the review of recent related research results, sophisticated technical support systems suitable for the development and utilization of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm were systematically studied and analysed in the following six angles:variety sources of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, biological characteristics and the adaptability of Pennisetum purpureum, growing distribution and the position of Pennisetum purpureum in forage grass species, breeding technology of Pennisetum purpureum, analysis of test and high yielding cultivation techniques of Pennisetum purpureum.From the functional aspect of utilizing Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, the research focus of our study is to solve the problem of whether Pennisetum purpureum can be utilized or not. Usefulness, the core value of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, is the key of Pennisetum purpureum function, which is also the premise and foundation of the development and utilization of Pennisetum purpureum. Based on the review of recent relevant research results, the utilization of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm were systematically studied and analysed in the following seven aspects:Forage breeding, paper making, fiber board production, soil conservation, biomass energy, beverage production and mushroom production.From the beneficial aspect of utilizing Pennisetum purpureum germplasm, the research focus of our study is to solve the problem of whether large scale planting Pennisetum purpureum is worthy or not. According to economic statistics and comprehensive evaluation of Pennisetum purpureum by agriculture, stockbreeding and grass industry authority departments of Southern ten provinces, the economic benefit of planting Pennisetum purpureum was macro analysed and the current barriers against large scale Pennisetum purpureum production was proposed. All of which laid the foundation of putting forward recommendations as policy measures.We came to the conclusions that Pennisetum purpureum is coupled with high technical value, functional value, economic value, social and ecological value.The development and utilization of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm is highly space and potential vast because of its high adaptability, mature technology systems, versatile function, economic benefit, significant social and ecological benefits. Compared with similar forage species, the development and application of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm has made remarkable achievements, the organic unity of economic, social and ecological benefits has achieved. The standardization production and industrialization development of Pennisetum purpureum should be further promoted. The technology, function and value of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm should be fully developed and utilized to contribute to the development of agriculture and related industries, the development of rural economy and the farmers to get rich.Policy suggestions about the development and application of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm were put forward as follows:increase the collection, preservation, research and utilization of Pennisetum purpureum germplasm; formulate grass industry development planning and co-ordinate the development of Pennisetum purpureum industry; implement subsidy policies to promote the development of Pennisetum purpureum industry; make full use of grassland resources to strengthen the development of grass and livestock industry; strengthen the construction of demonstration base which plays leading role in developing Pennisetum purpureum industry; develop and utilize the new functions of Pennisetum purpureum and implement comprehensive utilization technology; change industrial structure and fasten the development of combination of agriculture and ecological agriculture, finally to provide reference for government departments, enterprises and farmers.
