How to respond rapidly the requirements of the market and customers is the key for enterprises to win the markets. The strategy to reuse the product model is effective way to solve this problem so that the existing product design information of the manufacturing enterprises can be used to the maximum content. This studies such critical technology as establishment, expression, index, integration of reusable product models and the building of platform system in order to achieve rapid design of product. Based on the research work, a portal hoist rapid design platform based on product model reuse for mechanical product is built. This platform realizes the parallel and integration of product design and shortens the cycle time of product design and effectively assure the design quality of the product. The following achievement is acquired by this study in this paper.(1) Reusability of product model and the levels of reuse are analyzed based on the structure of product models, functions and engineering features. The technological frame of product model reuse supporting rapid design is built based on product model reusability and reuse levels. The critical technology of the frame is analyzed:model building of reusable product model information, design indexing, model information integration and platform building which the existing drawbacks of them are pointed out and the relevant technical ways to study them are respectively given.(2) Based on the study of Hybird mapping and fuzzy clustering model partition technology of Domains structure template, a domains-structure-template-based extension model is proposed. This is a model linked with design plan models, assembly models, structure models, and analysis models with some mapping constraints. a thorough study is carried out respectively for the building, expression and the directed graph interrelations of structure parameters of the extension models and sub-models. The proposed extension models can effectively support the multi-level reuse of the product models in the course of the rapid design and shorten the cycle time of the product development.(3) Aiming at the shortcomings in the existing design such as simple retrieval means, hard to support the retrieval of design information in the upper level, a multi-level template retrieval frame is built based on the characteristics of the hierarchy of the extension models. The critical feature attributes are drawn out from the extension models to build up an extension model template, and prompt a method of coarse retrieval on the basis of extension model template. The course set discretization of feature attribute ration, similarity retrieval, feature weight adjustment and retrieval system are respectively studied. The method limits the scopes of retrieval, determines the objective weight and defines the rules of weight adjustment, and makes the design retrieval more flexible, more effective and more practical.(4) A meta-model-based multiple model integrated frame is created against the characteristics of variety and isomerism of model data in various phase of product reuse models. The integrant parts and formal descriptions of the models under the frame in various phases are studied. The system studies the strong and weak points of CAD/CAE main integration methods and affected elements, communize the CAD models, CAE model data and builds the indexes of engineering data and realize engineering database-based CAD/CAE model integral methods.(5) Directed against the drawbacks that the current platform is hard to expand, upgrade and integrated with the other applicaton systems, based on SOA theory and Web Services, a frame of rapid design framework based on SOA is proposed. Key technologies such as Package legacy systems, heterogeneous data transformation and X3D based visual design technologies are analyzed. Under the framework, product model, opertations and software interface are packaged with Web services, which enbable a loosely coupled relations and improve design reuse, integration, coordination and etc.(6) Based on the theory and methods in the above-mentioned chapters, the product characteristics of portal hoists and the reuse requirements of the product models are analyzed, a service-oriented prototype system of rapid design platform to support product model reuse is built to verify the effectiveness of the relevant technology proposed in this paper. The design flow, main interfaces, design results are respectively introduced.
