It is very important in engineering that estimating site dynamic characteristicwell and truly, especially in structural seismic design. It has important engineeringsignificance for seismic design of structures that finding a simple and easy method, which can avoid plenty of boring, satisfy the requirements of engineering accuracy, and estimate the general dynamic characteristics of site. The following are maincontents and innovative achievements. The paper reviewed the current advancements at home and abroad in the fields ofnonlinear seismic response analysis and estimation of site dynamic characteristics. Then a method is proposed which can estimate the site general dynamiccharacteristics. The method based on a known reference site, assuming there are sameoutcrops movements between the reference site and the unknown site, according therecords of aftershock and main shock on the reference site and the unknown site, canestimate the general dynamic characteristics of the unknown site. The method can beused in engineering directly.Four real sites in Tianjin District are selected in the paper. One of those is treatedas reference site. The others are treated as unknown sites. Using one-dimension shearwave propagation and equivalent linear method, the general dynamic characteristicsof unknown sites, which are already equivalent to a layer or three layers, are estimatedin the cases of inputting three earthquakes in the paper. The rigid bedrock model isused firstly. Then considering the real bedrock is elastic, the elastic bedrock model isused to improve the method. It is shown that the results are stable and reliable. They are almost in the testscope of soil. And the predicted ground motion is similar to the real response of site. The method is feasible and valuable for engineering.
